I had an imaginary friend, dog, and cat as a child. I am curious to know, have you ever had an imaginary friend?

Pete Quaife has turned into an imaginary friend over the past 365 days. I just don't broadcast it much when I'm on here.

Not in the conventional sense, no. Did spend time imagining my gender-swapped counterpart, though.

I did but I knew she was imaginary. Her name was 'Dawn' and I viewed her as an angel.

I had an imaginary friend, but she killed herself. She told me she felt worthless because I wouldn't talk to her and her purpose in life was to keep me company. Also, people kept telling me to get rid of her because I was 18 and they thought I was crazy. So she kind of resented that.

I've had other ones, but I kind of lost touch with them a while ago, and it was all the better because they didn't have much personality. I was kind of young when I created them, so they ended up one-dimensional and very political. I probably wouldn't want to talk to them now because they'd go on and on about communism and Ayn Rand.

Yes, and I still have imaginary friends to this day. I mostly use characters from my favorite movies and television shows since I'm not creative enough to come up with my own characters (outside of the love-children I invent for my favorite pairings that is).

Here is a quick rundown of all the imaginary friends I've had throughout the years:

Balto (age 5 - 12)
Hamtaro (age 11 - 12)
The main casts of Inuyasha and Rurouni Kenshin (age 12 - 14)
The main casts of Naruto and One Piece (age 14 - 16)
The entire casts of Hellsing (manga/OVA) and Trinity Blood (anime version) (age 16 - 19)

Alice Kingsleigh (my imaginary fraternal twin sister) and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland (2010), Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd, Edward from Edward Scissorhands (age 19 - present)

The 10th Doctor and Martha Jones from Doctor Who, Spock and Uhura from Star Trek, the entire cast of Red Dwarf (age 20 - present)

A few years back, my mother told me I had an imaginary friend when I was a little kid. She told me about it in a kind of mocking tone, sort of 'weren't you amusing', and didn't say anything else about it. I don't even remember it, so I must have been pretty young.

I still kind of have imaginary friends now. Like IdahoRose, characters from stuff I'm into or stuff I'm writing myself, or real people from history I feel I can relate to and could do with advice from...I've been known to 'talk' to them in my head and listen for answers, or write down conversations.

I'm forty-two. I'd love to know how many other people don't grow out of it by my age.

And to answer your question, yes. I wrote Hamtaro fanfics when I was 11 or 12, which were well-received by other fans of the series. But when I tried writing Rurouni Kenshin fanfics, I kept getting bad reviews because people complained that they were historically inaccurate or that they didn't like the pairings I wrote about. It wasn't constructive criticism either - they were being downright nasty about it. I became so hurt and discouraged over the whole thing, I haven't written any fanfiction since.

My mom always tells me that if I still have imaginary friends at this age, I'm most likely going to keep having them for the rest of my life. I don't doubt that for one second. :)
