new or old
basicly this thread is about whether you like the newer or older version of something, and old doesn't mean from way back well i'm post mine to start with.
cars: i perfer older cars from the muscle car times, i like a car that sounds like a tiger purring, hybrids nowadays can hardly be heard at all... they are good on gas and all that but i like the sound of a good old V-8.
trains: i'm sort of middle ground here i love the sound of an old steam engine, but the look and designs of the newer trains like the tgv and bullet trains, are good as well, and diesels just look powerful.
planes: new all the way i love newer planes like f22 and the f35 look so cool and are so high tech. but i still love the older ones, like the b52 and the British landcaster, as well as the p-51 mustang and the a-10, but i do love to watch them evolve as technology evolves.
game consoles: i like the more old school style of gaming that didn't involve flailing around like a monkey, but i do love the nicer graphics, smoother gameplay, and precise controls. and i do not like the 3d going into newer games at all. i'm not buying a whole new tv after i just bought my current one, it's not even two years old. i like the 3d we already had which ment 360 degrees of movement.
country songs: like the 1990s to 2000 era. there is some new country that is good but most of it is sung by the artists who were in country since they started singing. everything before 1990s i don't like at all.
i listen to more then just country but i've been listening to country since i was little. i haven't listen to the other genres of music long enough to have a real opinion on it.
those are just the few things i can think of right now, what are your opinions?
Modern popular country music is embarrassingly bad. I'm not a fan of old country, but at least I can respect it. I'd rather get pissed on by a camel than listen to 15 seconds of Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, Shania Twain, Keith Urban, the Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, or Rascal Flatts. Screw waterboarding – we should be using this stuff as instruments of torture. How anyone who likes Johnny Cash or Dwight Yoakam can tolerate that crap is a mystery.

I prefer older music over newer music. I'm partial to the bands of The British Invasion of the 1960s over Top 40.
I prefer vintage unisex Mod fashions over what teenage girls and young women are wearing today.
I like both LED TVs and TV sets from the 1950s and 60s.
I prefer a Nintendo Wii over the game, Pong.

ouch those are all the artists i listen to. and grew up with, i never heard johnny cash and i don't plan on it. but i can't see what's so bad about them, i'm glad you didn't put reba or mcbride up there. the country artists that i was talking about were the american idol rejects we have now and all the new ones coming and trying to turn country into rock and pop.
but there are some people who like those artists and grew up with them.
The only reason I didn't list them is because I thought my list was sufficient in describing the type of music I can't stand and I didn't need more examples. I find them both just as intolerable as the ones I listed.
The "pop country" BS is exactly why I hate the "artists" I listed. Shania Twain is a perfect example of pop country. These artists are to country what Linkin Park is to heavy metal. It's corporate pop ready made for MTV/CMT and I detect no talent whatsoever in the singing or songwriting.
If it makes you feel any better, I have ABBA mp3s on my computer, and you can feel free to mock me for that. I'm certainly not trying to imply that I have impeccable taste in music.

sorry i wasn't trying to start a fight ok i was just saying that hurts a bit, you don't like the country i like and that's your opinion, i'm not mocking or anything i don't know abba either. but if i did i wouldn't put you down for listening to it everyone has their type of music they like and that's fine, i don't go around saying this "music is crap" when others like it.
newer country is drasticly different from older country but i don't think it should be compared to torture methods used on dangerous people. if you don't like newer country you could have just said "i don't like it" and not just bash the music i grew up with to my face.
i listen to all kinds of music nightwish, nickelback, disturbed, the country artists you listed and others, aruna and many others that would take a day to list, i listen to music in general rock, metal, country, new, old, gothic, some rap. my music is very diverse and i don't perfer one type over the other but i have been listening to country longer because back then it was all i knew about so i know what kind of country i like what i don't like. if i had been listening to rock all my life i would have put that up instead.
if you don't like it at least respect that i do.
Not much of a country fan, but I do love Mr. Cash.
yeah most do, and that's cool i do like some old music myself. alot of times i find songs i like browsing youtube for gaming videos or music videos. my dad got a clip of an f35 that was used as a chain-mail.
http://youtu.be/PNtU0aRu7Co <--- this one,
i liked the song even though it was hard to understand due to quality and it only has a short clip of the song i took a bit of searching but i found the song. but it's not uncommon for me to find a new song like that and so i have a wide variety of music, i basicly have a song for every situation, mood, theme, event etc...
other songs i found were "shut me up" "jump around" "gethesemane"
i know alot of people don't like country like i do and i don't mind it shows how unique we all are. if we all liked the same music it would be pretty odd to me. but i listen to whatever music is pleasant to my ears, i perfer lower tones over higher ones. which martine mcbride's song "where would you be" is not a favorite of mine because of the high note she hits on the 3rd chorus, but that's due to my sensitivity to loud high pitched noises. i can listen to freaking loud bass music used to test bass speakers people put on their cars, true story my bro's friend was playing it to show me how the speaker works and it was loud but not ear peircing.
Cars: Older.
The reason for this is that I feel older cars have more soul and passion put in to them. They have personality.....newer cars are all about science and math, which is fine because in the automobile world science has helped technology by leaps and bounds. 40 years ago do you think they'd ever produce a production car that could have a top speed of 268 miles per hour? Everything is monitored by computers that micro manage everything and corrects your mistakes, basically driving FOR you. With older cars YOU are the one driving and you become one with that car. Sounds silly, but thats just how I feel.
TVs: New
For obvious reasons. Hmm......fuzzy black and white or 1080p HD? Tough choice that one.
Music: Old
Well, its not really old, but its older to me. Stuff that came out in the 80's and early 90's. The stuff everyone today is trying to mimick. I can't stand when a new band comes out with a cd and on the front there's a sticker that says "For fans of Slayer, Testament, and Metallica!". Why would I buy it when I can listen to the originators who came up with all the great riffs that this new band slightly altered and try and call "unique"? I also don't like how music is becoming more and more digitally distributed. I love buying a cd that I can hold in my hand, look at the artwork and read the liner notes. It feels more personal, like the band made it just for you. With digital distribution all of that is lost. True, its more of a "green" approach but I don't care.

yeah cds are more personal but i like the digital way, with cds i can buy one and get 15 songs, and in the end i will most likely i will hate every song but 2 or something, so it's a waste to me. when i download one song i can listen to it see if i like it and then keep or delete and it's not so much of a waste because it's only one song. i couldn't care less about being green it's about convenience to me. but i'm not everyone.
cars i understand completely there was something about those old cars, but i like how they looked different then other ones. back then a chevy car looked way different then a ford. today besides a choice few cars they all look the same they all have the same body shape and i hate it. i loved to ride in the car when i was younger [granted i'm not that old] and see how many cars i could i identify by looks alone i was pretty good at it. now i can't tell one from the others.

I guess I can understand where you're coming from with the track by track thing. These days I look stuff up on You Tube first before I go and buy a cd. But I can't tell you how many incredible albums I've bought on a whim without ever hearing the band. I remember buying Opeth's "My Arms, Your Hearse" just because of the cover and then when I listened to it I was blown away. Either way, its all going digital within the next 10 years. There are already reports of record stores going out of business due to digital distribution, which is sad.
VERY true about cars. Back then it was all about trying to be unique and to stand out from the other manufacturers. Now its like every car or truck comes out of the same cookie cutter plant and they just slap a Ford or Chevy logo on it and people are happy. The European auto industry seems to be the only ones in the world making interesting mass production cars that stand out from the crowd. Thats just my opinion though..

I think I'm a mixture of new and old.
Musicwise I love the mid 70s to mid 80s in particular, but also a lot of 60s, 90s and more modern stuff. There's an element of nostalgia in the stuff I grew up with, the rest I just like if it is good. Johnny Cash, is there anyone that doesn't love him?
It's the same with films. I love the 80s for films, but so much of that is nostalgia. There have been some fantastic films in the last 2 decades, but it's a rare one that I truly love.
Technology, I am a bit of a luddite. I'm quite resistant to change when it comes to gadgets. I have things from the 80s still for the kitchen. I have an ipod, but I haven't used it for a long while as I don't go out much now, plus it went all wonky which was annoying. I miss LPs and 7 inch singles. CDs are still a bit new fangled for me. What annoys me about technology is how it feels so wasteful. All these resources going into gadgets that everyone replaces every 6 months, because they want to be trendy and also because things aren't made to last anymore. I loathe mobile phones. I love my laptop though, obviously.
In my house I have furniture that was tatty in the mid 90s. I've carted it around me with every time I move. I still have a shabby bookcase from childhood too. Why chuck something out if it still does the job? My house doesn't match, like people seem to like these days. Matching curtains and decor and sofas etc. It's lots of different colours and textures and I like it that way. Although I'd get rid of the beige carpets if I owned it.
If I could live in a different time I probably would. I'd like to go back to a time when there was more of a community, people all knew each other and looked out for each other. Although I could be wearing my rose tinted specs there. I suppose every generation looks back and thinks how simpler it was in the past compared to now.

i agree on cell phones 100%, they are a waste and people use them so much you wonder what else they do, my own brother texts while driving. i haven't touched mine in the last 4 months, i never take it with me anywhere, and used to use it to keep in touch with my friends who never call anymore even when i cared enough to bother contacting them, it was about once a month. i don't like smart phones one bit waste of time imo.
i don't match colors either, my room is a mix of silvers, blacks, blues, browns and the rainbow of colors that my stuffed animals are in, i have no theme at all in this room, besides total chaos.
to SammichEater: lol i love my ps3. but you've got a point about the ferraris.
