I don't always. I do separate the whites and colors. I don't put anything in the washer that says hand wash only or to dry clean only though.

Sometimes I will toss whites in with the colors (that is if I don't care if the colors will bleed into it) and there is no bleeding in the whites. I also toss colors together and sometimes the labels with say machine wash cold and yet I use warm water because on the thing, there is no hot or cold setting, there is whites, colors, and bright colors, and delicate and small load. Whites is hot water and colors is warm. But if I know if I always followed the washing instructions, I would be spending more money on laundry and it be harder to get it done and I will always have dirty clothes because they be sitting there and never worn because it's dirty. I suppose I could hand wash those clothes but I am too lazy to do it. We have to put in quarters just to wash a load. Besides I was taught as a child you are to separate the colors and wash them separate. I was never taught anything about hot or cold. I was taught certain things were to be washed on delicate like curtains or certain fabric for furniture.

But yet I use whites setting to wash the diapers because the water is hot. I want them to be washed in hot water to kill the bacteria.

I don't own white clothes, so I don't worry about it.

I only do it if my clothes feel like a rabbits ears. If the material feels different, i wouldnt want it to get ruined so I do follow the instructions

Well if I am washing something by hand and the label says to machine wash whatever, technically I am not following the instructions.

They're on the back of the clothes label.

I would follow the instructions if washing something valuable, but that doesn't describe most of my laundry. Generally I mix whites and colors and wash in cold water. The exception would be highly colored cotton items washed for the first time; these would be done separately. Also, as whites tend to get dingy washed with colored items, every once in a while I grab every white thing I own for a giant white wash with hot water and bleach.

Hmm, you learn something new every day. I will have to try this, as I've stopped wearing my white shirts due to discoloration.

After a few mishaps, I just quit buying clothes which require special treatment. I do separate them by color though.

I stuff the basket-full into the machine, press the button, ask no questions and run off going "la la la I can't hear you". then hide in a corner with my fingers crossed until it finishes

I don't wear expensive fancy cloths. I mostly wear T`shirts, basic shorts, socks & underwear so there's no special instructions to fallow. I have one load for the shirts, socks & underwear(those are white) & another for shorts(those are dark). It's very seldom I'll wear something fancy & when I do; I usually get my mom to wash it & she'll probably wash it with some other stuff. I didn't vote in this poll

I wash most of my regular clothes together on the cold setting. I'll read the instructions on my fancy clothes like a nice top or a dress, but those rarely get worn and therefore rarely need washing.
