All of my friends who have been to Burning Man say it's a marvelous, life-changing experience.
I want to go to see all the radical crazy-cool art projects.
BUT...
it takes place during classes, so I'd have to miss an entire week
and it will probably cost me $900 (ticket + food + gas + supplies).
I don't like crowds, I don't like heat, and I don't like too much sunlight,
all of which will be present in overwhelming abundance.

My friends say I should go, but they're not afraid of those things like I am.
Have any of you gone? Did you survive the commotion? Is it really worth the price?

I am certainly going to go at least once - probably next year.

Just bring what you need to make yourself comfortable, if it gets too bad you can always just leave...

I'd do it but it's way out of my budget. With all the other factors you named such as crowds and heat, I use to solve this by drinking some hard vodka. I don't drink anymore for personal reasons but you may find it will help with this problem...if it doesn't create other problems. Other than that I really can't decide for you. There are a lot of things I wished I did when the opportunities were there. Some things are worth enjoying but if you don't think you'll enjoy it then it may not be worth the effort. But given with my patterns of thinking vs experiences, I often find that the things I think I won't enjoy I eventually enjoy.

If you don't like crowds, heat and sunlight it will be hell for you, dude. Try going to one of the regional Burner events in your area to see if you actually enjoy the scene first, and plan to go to the playa next year when you don't have classes scheduled. It'll still be there.

I can safely assume there aren't any in Texas (their goal is to ban anything considered "un-Christian", and that would include public nudity and drug use).

Actually, their are regional Burning Man groups in Austin, Houston, Dallas and Denton. I attended two of the "Burning Flipside" events when I lived in Austin and the community there is still going strong.

This is confusing, I have an acquaintence that goes every year and he says that people just show up with nothing but the clothes they're wearing and do just fine.

Their mantra is: The playa will provide... and apparently it often does.

I've always wanted to go. So I say, "Go!"

If I wait until next year, it might be that much hotter, and I might have a job where I can't take a week off.
I'll email my instructors to day to ask if I can miss a week.
If their response is favorable, I'll go.

lol at the vodka suggestion. When I get drunk I loose things. I don't want to loose something important in the middle of a Nevada desert.

I did enjoy Comic Con despite all the crowds, but I don't know if a crowd of geeks & nerds is equivalent to a crowd of plastered drugged-out semi-nude [insert noun here]s. My friends say the crowd is friendly so perhaps I should stop being so cynical.

I'm not into that kind of stuff (no offense to those who are). I can't imaging spending a few days in the Nevada desert with no showers, and having to barter with others for food and other needs. If I wanted that, I'd have enlisted in the Army.

Aw nuts. Tickets just sold out.

I wanted to go for 5 days so I only miss 2 days of class and (hopefully) not suffer a sensory overload.
Oh well. There's always next year.

I decided I wouldn't be too upset either way.
My college art classes are so fun it feels like I'm on holiday anyway.
