This question recently popped in my head. There are people out there who have problems and even therapy won't fix it. Why is this?

When you say problems/beyond help, I'm not sure what the context is.

Extreme problems - no simple fix available/long-term therapy, results are subtle.

People who are unable to "help" themselves for xyz reasons -do not have the skills required, lacking in information.

Wrong type of therapy - whats the focus of the therapy? Is it limited by external factors like the persons environment...

Wrong time for therapy - timing is important so that the person is an active participant in their 'recovery'.

I think that no one is beyond help if they wish to help themselves. As far as therapists go, I haven't found them helpful at all.

They have to really want help. It's like that old joke "How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb? Only one, but the bulb has to really want to change". They're often afraid to even admit they need help because they realize they have a problem they can't solve on their own, and mostly it's because of the change. Change is scary, even when the possible outcome of not changing is fatal.

I believe there's always a right kind of therapy for everyone. But the odds of finding the one that will work for you before you die could be more wide or slim depending how severe or rare the problem is. And the difference between helpful and harmful can be a very subtle fine line, because the human mind is so complex, and no two individuals are alike.

I think as mankind evolves, more knowledge on mental health will become available to the experts, and it will gradually make its way to common knowledge. I sorta feel like we're currently in the "dark ages" of what psychology can offer us. Nowday's therapy is probably very basic compared to what it might be one day 500 years from now (assuming humans will survive the consequences of their own stupidity that long).

I'm thinking of something kinda-unrelated-but-kinda-related now... Those animal behaviorist shows where they are able to help a pet that was deemed a "lost cause" by an owner, but a small change like a location of a litter box or the way a leash is held by the hand, can make a world of difference, all because the owner was ignorant of the animal's subtle language. I know we are not animals, but my point is, sometimes complicated things aren't fixed by trying harder, but by understanding better.

I think a lot of my problem with therapists comes from the fact that I was seeing them in the late '60s and early '70s and they didn't have a clue about AS. Their usual response was "You'll grow out of it ".I had to strike my own level.

Maybe they need medication as well.

The question I want to ask you is :

Do you expect or demand the medical community to solve every medical condition over night,
or just the ones you want solved immediately?

There are a lot of them!
There's a fricking shedload of them
you're choice!
