No one had a clue I was autistic for about half my life, and when I was diagnosed with Asperger's I wasn't really sure at first, until I learned I had many of the same traits *female* aspies have. Like role-playing with dolls and stuffed animals as teenager and even an adult, which helped me cope with having problems socializing with real people, preferring practical clothing over whatever was currently fashionable, a lack of interest in cosmetics and hygiene products, and so on.

I never have. Once I found out what it actually meant, it seemed pretty obvious to me that I'm on the autism spectrum.

Aspergers was ruled out when I was tested in favor of lots of other disorders. I questioned if I had a lot of other disorders instead but after joining this forum I realize the person who tested me was a quack. I was told I communicated too well verbally & seemed too intelligent to have anything on the autism spectrum. I was also told that I could only get officially diagnosed with autism before I turned 21 cuz autism is a developmental disorder that occurs before you turn 21 & the only way to be sure that it occurred before turning 21 was to get tested before 21.

I needed to read a lot about autism and Asperger's before I accepted my psychologist's suggestions. I used to have a lot of misconceptions before my thorough research.
Now I'm coming to conclusion that AS is not really my most prominent neurodiverse trait, it would have been an innocent BAP if it wasn't for my other neurodiverse trait, extremely high sensitivity. The combo of the two most likely contributes to the issues I have... and to the person I am.

No, for two reasons:

1) After my assessment process was complete and the three hour meeting with my assessment psychologist who has years of experience assessing adults was completed, she said she wasn't even going to wait to conclude her findings nor did I have to come back for a final appointment to go over the results. She showed me my scores and how they were 'off the charts' and she said she had no doubt whatsoever that I had high functioning autism.

2) Since then I've read many books on the subject and that's solidified the diagnosis for me with no doubt.

No. But when I was little I did not accept all the things I overheard them saying I would not be able to do.

People never really told me I couldn't do things but I was called & labeled a lot of bad things that were related to my autism. For example my peers truly believed I was ret*d & were more than very willing to let me know that. My mom has also accused me of being selfish, manipulative, only caring about myself ect ect. I didn't really accept those things to well & would argue back with lead to me getting in trouble.
