WRONG.

There aint no such song.

Its "Hang on Sloopy", originally entitled "My Girl Sloopy".

The singer is singing to a girlfriend named "Sloopy". Not to the beagle in the Peanuts comic strip.

Actually there probably are Peanuts related versions. But it was originally recorded under the "my girl" title by the R+B group "the Vibrations", and then it became a huge chart topper when it was covered by the McCoys (under the later "hang on" title). And then zillions of other artists covered it as well.

I always liked that song about "Charlie Brown", which is about a high school "class clown" character who walks to the classroom cool and slow, calls the English teacher daddy-o, and is the reason the singer smells smoke in the auditorium (they don't say what *kind* of smoke). But when I first heard it as a kid I was confused since Charlie Brown in the song was nothing like the Peanuts character, except maybe when he asks "Why is everybody always picking on me?", although that may be an attempt to look innocent when he's accused of writing on the walls and throwing spit balls.

If Lucy was in the sky with diamonds, then what was her brother Linus doing?
