Tell me how speeding is handled by the police in your country.

The Dutch police follows the following algorithm:

1. If you are speeding, driving too fast, the following will happen. Of course you will pulled over by the police.
2. Your speed has been measured by special equipment of the police. From the speed 3 km (1,9 miles) is subtracted if your speed was 100 km/h (62 MPH) or lower. If it is higher then 3 % of your speed is subtracted.
3. The speed limit is subtracted from your speed (see point 2).
4. If you are a Dutch citizen and the result of 3 is 50 km (31 miles) or higher, you lose your driver's license for a maximum of 10 days. In that period the district attorney will decide what he will do with your driver's license. If you are not a Dutch citizen you get a very expensive ticket which can be about 550 euros. You must pay that money immediately to the police or you get arrested.
5. If the result of 3 is 50 km (31 miles) or lower, you get a ticket. The amount of the penalty depends on the result. Dutch citizens will get an acceptgiro. With the data on it you can use Internet banking and the case is closed. Foreigners must pay the police in cash, and then the case is closed.

The police will ask for a reason for speeding, but you are allowed to refuse that. That will be explicitly told by the police to you.

We get fined, depending on the severity.

To be honest cops here don't really care as much as long as you aren't drunk.

Not nearly enough of them to carry out any traffic stops in my area as they are too busy dealing with all the fatal road incidents caused by young, speeding drivers.
Just the other evening I was travelling to a shop behind a police vehicle in a 20mph zone, it failed to adhere to the speed limit AND failed to indicate it was to make a right hand turn, so even they have poor driving standards nowadays.
