Have you ever been mistaken for another user?

Sometimes I will get mistaken as being someone else. It has happened a few times at I2. Instead of getting all offended by it for the false accusation, I take it as a compliment now and find it funny. Someone even though Ticker (old WP user here) and me were the same people because that person said we were the same. But I don't know if he was joking or not since that user joked all the time. Plus another accusation I got turned out that person was just joking when he said my name with the question mark at the end because the post that user wrote was a ramble and "didn't make any sense."

I have been accused of having two other accounts here I never had and I suspect what those accounts may be because these two trolls used the name Spokane when they registered their troll account here to troll and impersonate me and the other opened another account and used the same Benny & Joon avatar I had (I think to impersonate me too). That upset me at first when the mods and alex thought those were me but I let it go because I wasn't punished for their actions so I didn't care anymore what they thought. Plus I was told it was obvious Spokane wasn't me and it was very clear it wasn't based on the British slangs the troll was using and you'd have to be an "idiot" to think it was me. So I figured everyone would know that wasn't me since I was well known here. I figured other mods would know that too and the future ones. But wrong. But Spokane is gone too so I don't care if that account was deleted because I can't find the profile nor the posts and I am sure the other one was deleted too. But yet I was surprised my ex's was still here because I have accidentally posted under it a few times when we were together so I was sure there be matching IPs with my original account and his.


When I was 18, someone posted on a message board and the OP thought it was me posting under a different name and it pissed me off back then but now I wouldn't care anymore and would find it hilarious.

So has anyone ever thought you were someone else like if they thought someone was your sockpuppet or if it was you posting as anonymous or thought someone on another forum was you?

I suspect I have been spoofed because I have gotten some strange IMs from people saying they found me from certain sites I had never gone to or heard of or saying they got an email from me and it was a nice email I sent them to be their friend. So it's possible a spam bot spoofed my email perhaps?

Recently, one user of Wrong Planet used an almost identical avatar to my current one, and I remember one incident in which I saw his avatar in one thread and I was like, "What? I don't remember replying to this thread". Also, there was another user who used the same username as mine and added some numbers at the end of it.
