These animals are driving me crazy!
So is everything else, actually. My boyfriend (whom I live with) works ten hours a day and I'm here taking care of the house and his great dane. I love the dog...she's incredibly sweet and very smart for a dog. The issue is that I've been doing this for several months now, including when the dog was in heat and he had to leave town, and I can't get a second to do anything! The dog is always in my face or on top of me or stepping on my toes or leaning....all things danes do, but I didn't even choose to get this dog! It's turning me into a horrible person....I see myself getting ridiculously angry because of all the small things that build up. For example I can't move from room to room without the dog. I can't make a sandwich without watching to make sure she doesn't eat it. Even if it's far back on the counter...I can't let her outside, even though the yard is fenced, because she knows where a hole is and knows that I can't get her back in the fence. That means that even at 6am(which is cold in NV this time of year) I have to walk her on a leash. She won't go without being walked halfway back into the yard so this isn't something I can do without suiting up...to top it all off I have a kitty that I share some sort of subconscious bond with, that I can't even pet anymore. The cat has gone insane and for good reason. Every time Katzen is in someone's lap or getting love, the dog has to come up and ruin it. She doesn't listen when I tell her to go away, or lie down, or many other commands that she does know. She has destroyed the peace of mind of the cat, and she's working on mine. I don't know what to do! Kitty is now starting to purposely knock over glass things (2 in as many days), and the whole situation is escalating! I just want to have lunch without being harassed or feeling like the world's most horrible pet parent and yelling at the unintentionally obnoxious dog.
Does anyone have any advice? I'm in desperate need here.

Well, when a dog doesn't listen to you, they see you as someone of lesser power than them. If he doesn't know already, you should tell your boyfriend what is going on. That's all I have.

When a dog, especially a dog as big as a Great Dane leans on you, it is a sign of dominance, it means that she thinks she is the "Alfa" dog. When she leans on you, lean back, so that you are leaning on her, eventually she should stop.
