I'm 18 and I started college about a month or two ago and I keep hearing society's cry that I should have already moved out and be living on my own by now. I don't see the logic behind this however, I understand that it could help you learn to be more independent quicker, but you would run the risk of being in massive debt and would probably have a rough time starting off. It's obviously smarter and cheaper to live with your parents when going to college is it not? You save money by not paying for room and board and when you love your parents like I do and they love you...is it so wrong? FYI I understand that some people didn't have a choice, but why does it feel wrong when it really shouldn't? I don't see the reasoning, would anyone be willing to share their thoughts?

I'm in the same boat as your thinking, I don't get why people have to leave. When it's oblivously cheaper to stay at home, and go to college that way.

Saving money is wrong. How dare you not waste it all!

You are supposed to waste your money getting wasted. That's why college students move out of their parents :drunken:

I think part of the complaint stems from a perception that such people are failing to master independent skills or are failing to pursue their degrees or goals in life as vigorously because they have parents to fallback on. Stereotypical complaint I think is the person who never graduates and has no goals but sits around doing pleasure leisure activities all day long with no immediate intention of making further plans.

I moved away to college, but I'd move back in the summers till I got married. Seemed like a good balance to me.
