Does anybody here have an uncommon pet at home? By that I mean something other than a cat, dog, or any other common animals you expect people to own.

I own a pet hermit crab named Hina after the Hawaiian Moon Goddess (I named him that because I wanted a Hawaiian name for one of my pets and because he's mostly active at night). I think he's the coolest pet I ever owned because he's very easy to take care of since hermit crabs will eat almost anything and because I can give him brightly painted sea shells to make a home in. I have a little aqarium set up for him in my room with fresh beach sand that I change out every month and I have it decorated with sea shells, drift wood, and a tikki hut I bought for him to hide in. Sometimes I even let him out the aqarium to crawl around my hand. :D

I would post a picture of him except I don't have a camera other than my cellphone and it takes fuzzy pictures that look like crap. Hermit Crabs can be bought as pets at pet stores and some gift shops near the beach (like the one where I found him). I think anyone who wants a really exotic pet that's easy to take care of would love these guys. :)

My 3rd Grade teacher had a pet corn snake in class, she used to feed it cute little white mice.

I'd like to have a Sugar Glider, but I don't think my cat would approve...

I thought about getting one but I got a chinchilla instead. It's an old pic but she still looks the same

I also have hermit crabs. I actually do rescue and have been trying to find homes for my latest rescues (I keep them for several months so that they go through a molt or two so I know they are healthy enough to go to a new home. @GreySun369 is correct. They are easy to take care of, once you have everything set up. The set up can be complicated (correct heat and humidity - proper moist substrate and all that), but once it is set up, you can watch them play. I have a jumbo in m tank in my room tha t he others love to catch a ride on. It looks funny to see this baseball sized crab with a tiny one clinging to his shell. lol.

The big guy is Steve. He is the one that is baseball sized. I don't use this substrate. This was a group of 20 that I rescued back in May. They can in sad shape. They are much better now. :)
