Is anyone else bored to death of sarcasm?

I encounter it everywhere I go on the Internet. I mean maybe back in the 90s, it was funny and edgy, like when Daria first made it popular. But I've really just grown tired of it.

Sarcasm isn't really funny usually, mostly it's just kind of mean spirited and un-clever. I hate how I can't debate anything online without getting mostly sarcastic non-answers. I sometimes feel like sarcasm is a mechanism that allows stupid people to seem/feel intelligent.

Yeah, sarcasm was definitely invented in the 90s.

No, I never tire of it, and it's a valid form of comedy just like any other.

I'm also very tired of sarcasm. I never really did like it. I've always thought of it as something very nasty that people do to those who are different.

It wasn't invented in the 90s of course but it wasn't really mainstream until then, or at least as all-pervasive.

I like sarcasm. When it's not hurting anyone. What I can't stand is that ret*d, coarse American-type sarcasm that is so over/misused. I'm not saying Americans can't be good at sarcasm. But I've seen it a lot where they will just say something in a rude tone that brings you down, and call it "sarcasm".
There was this evil harpy of a girl I used to be friends with in high school. She was that kind of user. :x

I think it can be funny or used to make a point, but mostly I see sarcasm as a weapon. I will occasionally use it during debates if someone says something that really bothers me, but only if I feel really upset and only to prevent myself from going ad hominem.

Does anyone else feel the same way - like it's kind of almost a form of bullying sometimes?

I do find it really annoying when you can't have a conversation with someone without them being condescendingly sarcastic. In those cases, yes, it does seem like it's a substitute for actual intelligence.

In other cases, though, I like it.

I hate hipster sarcasm and irony in general. It's not funny, it's not clever, it's not cool, and it doesn't make me think you're smart.

I like sarcasm, but I'm a very sarcastic person myself. I try to only show that side of my sense of humor with my good friends, because I know many people interpret it as someone trying to be mean.

Says the man with an ironic avatar...

But I agree. Sarcasm isn't bad but there's a lot of bad sarcasm. And hipster irony is the worst.

I can't make it through the day without being sarcastic. At work I asked someone for some tape and they asked me "what kind do you want?" and I said "The sticky kind". And this is cold but.......one time one of the guys at work passed away in his vehicle out in the parking lot just before he was supposed to come in to work. All I could think of to say was "I guess he really didn't want to come in and work today".

Thats just the way I am *shrugs*
