No, but I've read several of Amy Tan's books, and I once had a friend who lived in Thailand for a few years. My cousin Debbie was a missionary in Japan when she was younger. My high school boyfriend and his wife adopted to baby's from China.

I'm no help on this, sorry.

I would love to travel and visit all sorts of places. However the language barrier would be the biggest problem for me. Other than the obvious - financing the trips.

I have a VERY thick Southern accent and had a hard enough time understanding and being understood by people in Canada when I visited once. A foreign country would just blow my mind.

Most Taiwanese speak English, and we are very welcoming. :D

Just thought it would be a nice destination for nts and aspie alike, so I posted this with a surge of patriotism

Never been there, but I always wanted to ask a Taiwanese a particular question:

What future do you think is best for your country?
A) Reunification with mainland China based on your island's government
B) Reunification with mainland China based on their Communist government
C) Taiwan renounced claims to mainland China and establishes itself as the Republic of Taiwan (independence)

Just curious. Thank you

Hmm, that's a very good question and a topic of argument here, as the presidential election is coming up. As you know taiwan and china are separated by communism, plan b is definitely not what most of us want. Plan a and plan c are acceptable for me, although I don't think our government would have the ability to manage such a huge country suddenly, plan c may lead to war, so I propose a plan d...sit here and wait until china becomes a democratic country and then talk about unification or independence :)
