I know this properly belongs in the WP discussion forum but I felt that no-one would ever read it there.

So, back to my original question: what made WP become so popular compared to all the other Aspie forums?

Excellent question for which I don't even have a speculative answer - undoubtedly true though.

It seems like just about anyone seeking information on spectrum disorders ends up here, not sure why that is.

It was one of the first, since it started in 2004 (according to the copyright notice). I suspect that gives it quite the upper hand.

And now WP have many members, so it's also more attractive. I also prefer english forums, it's like a mask. It's easier to talk about things like that in another language (for me).

WP is an offshoot of a (dearly departed) forum called Aspergian Island, isn't it? AFF was an offshoot of the same forum too.

I've always assumed this place got popular due to it's notoriety. WP did have an influx of new signups after Nov 2005 :P

Alex's publicity endeavours probably got a few people registering as well.

If I Recall Alex is not the original creator of the site it was some kind of collaboration between people who have long moved on from this community.

Aspergia island brings back memories. I used to be a mod on there once upon a time

Aspies For Freedom has been going along for ages. Unlike WP they have actually updated their forum :P

I tried to join Aspies for Freedom before WP, but they weren't accepting new members, so here I came.

It's probably the combination of soap opera drama, witty banter, informative misdirection and sex appeal that keeps me here.

But of course.

You are the Chief Banterer of the Dramatic Fiefdom of Wrong Planet.
We bow down before your Soapyness, and gaze in wonder and awe at your Informative Operaticness.
