Anyone else get bothered every time the word 'your' is used when it's really obvious that 'you are' is what belongs there.
I just don't get it. 'Your' is not some weird verb/noun combination thing. It's a possessive noun. As in, if it is yours, then it belongs to you.
If you said, 'your the greatest man alive,' then I will ponder for a second what my 'the greatest man alive' is. (Not really, but maybe you can see my point.)

Yeah, I know you meant 'you're' as an abbreviation for 'you are,' but that's not even pronounced the same as 'your.'
'Your' should be pronounced 'yor' as in 'for.'
'You're' should be pronounced 'yooer' as in 'viewer.'

Phew, glad to get that off my chest.

EDIT: Yes, I did that to the title on purpose, so as to get people who noticed the error bothered.

It certainly bothers, but we must remember that none of us here have been educated equally. Oddly enough, I taught myself proper grammar and writing outside of school as my special interest. It's a matter of priorities.

Edit: Also, consider those who were diagnosed young and were (wrongly in my opinion) given relaxed expectations when it came to their educations.

I'm a stickler for grammar, but always found spelling hard.

Spell check is helpful and I've gotten better over time.

I especially hate seeing spelling and grammar mistakes on signs and banners. If you're going to the trouble of having a big sign made, you should at least check the spelling.
Sometimes I feel like doing some "positive vandalism" - going around with a black marker pen and correcting stuff when I'm out and about.

Well, that's pretty funny, but vandalism is vandalism.

Myself, I feel kind of like being able to spell things properly actually helps you read and write more efficiently.
Spelling is highly associated with reading, I think. I mean, it sort of makes sense.

First, it's not a grammar error, it's a spelling error.

I do dislike that error. I'll agree with you there. Though I don't let it bother me. My choice; I don't let it affect my mood.

Second, for some of us, they ARE pronounce the same. We can't say "your the greatest man alive". We can write it, but we can't say it. Because "your" sounds just like "you're".

Check out the Wiktionary entry for "your": http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/your Note: That it gives 6 different U.S. pronunciations. One of those matches the pronunciation it gives for "you're".

For me, your and you're sound alike and sound like (beyond the first syllable) either "for" or "fur", depending on stress ("fur" would be an unstressed pronunciation).

Correct grammar would be a great help for non-English speaking members. I'm already quite good at noticing similar grammar mistakes, though, so not really a problem for me... :P

their - they're
tho - though

My grammar fluctuates. I make a lot of typos some days as well. Sometimes I can be very pedantic over it and sometimes not.
