Someone said their Halloween costume was "Bature." What, or who, is that? I didn't ask as I didn't want to offend them for having no clue what or who that is.

Hmm without a visual it's difficult, could be based on 'Bats' or 'Batman'.

Probably combination of "bat" plus "mature".

Or "bat" plus "couture".

Maybe a sexy girl vampire outfit (like Elvira)?

Could also be based on a style of uniform worn by Nigerian child-soldiers. Could also be a conflation of 'Batik' and 'Couture'.

Goldfish21, are you sure that you have the spelling right?

All I remember of it was that he was wearing black shorts & no shirt.. definitely no shirt, as I remember looking at his tattoos.

The spelling was sent in a text message. It's possible that it was a typo or odd autocorrect. I didn't ask because I didn't want to let on that I had no idea what he was talking about. It was funny that he said hey it's "first name" I was the guy in the Bature costume blah blah as if THAT was how I was going to remember who he was lol - nope - definitely remember his face/smile/body/tattoos & have no idea wtf his costume was.. nor do I care that much, really. Just thought it might be nice to know wtf it was before meeting him again later this week for a coffee date.

The word appears two ways on Google.

1) Bature means "White" in Hausa (the language of northern Nigeria).

2) Bature, or bhature, is also an Asian Indian dish made from fried bread and chick peas.

Neither seems to have anything to do with the guy's outfit.

This is the only guess that makes any sense. I bet that's what he meant.
