Everytime I go swimming it's there on the side of the pool, staring at me as though it can sense my fear.
I love swimming, but there are very few pools I can go in that are drain free, so I always have a sense of unease while swimming. it really sucks.

List any experiences, similatities, what type freaks you out the most etc..

is it me, or is this a legit fear?

I can remember thinking those are great as a little boy. I recall gigantic horseflies being my main nemesis when going swimming. Those suckers take a chunk of you when they bite.

Yes, but a controlled phobia.

I just had a bad dream last night about avoiding a pool that had them at the bottoms.... I wouldn't get in.

I'm aware of phobias starting from trauma, but where or how do these originate without a personal bad experience? I have a certain range and it is around control issues. Tight places like working underneath my vehicle under jack stands. I still leave the jack in place. Funny thing is when I'm under there I think "earthquake." I couldn't do a regular MRI being in that tube. When in a pool I think of a short as in electrical by the pump systems.

Never been in a precarious position, but why the fear?

Anyone? Let's test your brain.

I went out for lunch and the answer dawned on me: *Trauma* comes in many forms and one not need to experience the same event.

The different circumstances here, e.g. pool drains, etc and "loss of control" crossover to a direct loss of control from a real trauma.

Anyone here find this in their phobias?

Y.E.S. I don't know which is worse--deep water or drains!

I might not be now but now I don't swim in pools because I worry about the health effects of chlorine!
