A couple of weekends ago me and MONKEY were hanging out in a little comic book shop we sometimes go to (not to but anything much, we usually just browse and "window shop") and we were scanning the manga section when she came across this one with a little orange dinosaur on the front cover, and suggested I buy it because I'm dino mad. I ended up paying the £8.99 for the first issue despite the fact it was sealed so I couldn't flick through it to see if it was something I'd like or not, but my curiosity got the better of me and I must say the gamble paid off. It's such a great little set of stories, told almost purely in pictures. The artwork is beautifully detailed and although from all outward appearances it looks like a little kids book, it can actually be quite graphic (such as the part when Gon is falling down the cliff after the bobcat, then bites his tail off and spits it out, and later the parents of some eagle chicks the bobcat was trying to hunt start pecking the cat and tearing chunks off him, ears and everything. 8) I only wish the pictures were in colour though. And the stories are so well told through the pictures alone, you don't need words to understand what's going on. It's witty, clever, slapstick funny, brutal, and endearingly sweet all at the same time.

The animation on the front cover also reminds me of the Chuck Rock games for SEGA.

Has anyone else here heard of this? If so, are you a fan? How many issues do you have, where did you get them and how much did you pay for them?

I can't wait to get issue 2. :D

He was in Tekken 3, if I remember correctly.

Hi!
I discovered Gon through the mid 90's Paradox Press edition. I have all except the color book. I bought them at the local Borders and they cost I think around $10.

I've played Tekken 3 before but obviously didn't take much notice. I might have to scrounge the game off someone and see if I can find him at some point.

I remember seeing that manga somewhere when I was younger. I didn't read it though. I'm glad you like it; it's a lot of fun when a book surprises you with its quality.

Tekken! He was almost as spammy as Eddy too, but lethal in Tekken ball mode :)
Prone to flatulence though.

Thanks for the vid. It was great! Gon rules! I like how he got a perfect score against Yoshimitsu - my favourite character in Tekken / Soul Calibur. Ah well, if anyone should humiliate him, I'd rather it be Gon than anyone else.

I like the ending to that too, the music was nice and I like how they referenced the comic.

I thought of a name for his fire-fart move - "Gon With The Wind".

I got the second issue yesterday for £6.99. I like the look of it so far, although I haven't had a real look through it yet, but I saw it has a few colour pages at the start, where he is in the sea, and he comes across a big clam and dives inside it but it swallows him up. He then walks around whilst his torso is encased in the clam, then breaks the shell off after eating the animal inside and he emerges with a bloated stomach. I love the colours in this bit. I just wish it was all like this. The detail is much clearer with colour.

Anyway I'm looking forward to reading it (well, not technically correct but ah well, you know what I mean) and hunting for issue 3.

For some reason Gon seems to be pretty rare as I went to a reasonably big comic store yesterday with a large manga section, but there was only one Gon comic - the one I got. I suppose I'm quite lucky.

I liked your little cutesy story time earlier. :3
The second book is very good, I like the penguin comic best.

Glad you liked it. I think I liked that one best too because it's a snowy climate and I like snow, and I also like to see him helping his animal friends and sticking up for them too. It's cute.

(By the way people, I've looked all through the second issue now. I really love that little dino).
