I've just touched on middle age, and have been lucky not to have witnessed anything too horrible, or too often...but have three experiences in particular that shook me somewhat:

1) In April 2000, I saw the aftermath of a murder scene, where there was blood on the ground and cops everywhere marking out the scene (they caught the perp like the day after, so its not a cold case, at least)

2) Just over a year ago, I saw a motorcycle crash where there was the prostrate body of the cyclist and a trail of blood;

3) In 1998, I was walking down a main street about to cross a side street, somebody was walking in front of me; as he crossed the side street, the driver did a rolling stop through the stop sign w/o paying attention and smacked into the guy - I yelled STOP and banged his window as the driver was advancing and the victim got partially sucked under the car - he was rushed to hospital for trauma and likely a broken or very bruised leg...

Other than that, I can't say that I've had as jarring experiences as others - one of my acquaintances said he witnessed a guy do a suicide jump from a building, another said he watched his friend get stabbed in a nightclub and die beside him...yikes.

Wonder what you folks out there might have been witness to?

Our older lab bit the puppy on her nose and there was a huge gaping hole in the puppie's muzzle. When this happened we think that when the lab bumped her head it caused an artery to rupture or something.
When our white baby lab had her head bumped in the corridor of our house. She ended up bleeding out in seconds. I don't want to go into too many details but it was really bloody and I pulled my shirt off to try and stop the bleedout. The puppy died. It's really sad when something so sweet and innocent can die so violently.

Another time I played with fire and almost burned down the entire county. By a miracle of God I guess, the head of the brush fire ended up heading off into the woods and burning a couple acres of evergreens instead of 3 or 4 houses. It's incredible that nobody was hurt. I used to have nightmares about that day several times a year. I don't know if that's PTSD or not but it was the last day I ever played with fire.

Haha, I love fire.

The S.W.A.T team in the hallway at my school because we had a psycho with a gun running around one day at my highschool.

Something similar happened at my Middle School, There was a dude with a gun on campus. I ran out to look for him...ALMOST, but I was stopped.

I saw someone beaten in the head right in front of me at a young age. I guess it's no different than what you see on television everyday though.

I agree about tubgirl. Who in their right mind would post a picture like that on the Internet, for all to see? Another terrifying thing that I've seen was pictures of Rihanna's face that were taken after Chris Brown beat her.

It's mostly what people tell me to see on internet nowadays I feel. It's way too easy to just look up something really disturbing on something as simple as Google Images. But as for something I witnessed myself, when I was about 9 or 10 a large tree in my backyard during a wind storm I was outside in fell and the tree itself was probably about 30 or 40 feet away from me but if fell to the side in the neighbor's driveway and thankfully it didn't fall towards my house.
