Because of the silly reasons that they might cause a fire and are unnecessarily dangerous to you?

No one I've met in my entire life shares this sort of phobia with me, it's so odd it bothers me.

Like we have fire alarms but at the same time use candles in our home?

I guess I don't understand the fuss behind them.

I don't care for candles very much, either.

I like candles as long as the scent is mild and doesn't choke me. x_x I like the smell of a burning wick, and I like candlelight; it's cozy.

I don't like the idea of regular candles sitting unattended, but I do like special candles. When I was young, I had a candle at least a foot tall and 4" around that you burn down a couple inches on your birthday, which makes that number disappear and you wait for the next year. That was fun, I was fascinated watching the flame, and playing with the semi-soft wax at the top.

I also like "color drip" candles. The ones that have pockets of colored wax in them, so they drip various colors. I have one on my desk right now, burned about a quarter of the way down. I plan to leave it like that for a while.

I find candles fascinating, watching the flame flicker. Don't like scented ones though.

Yes. I was raised to believe that if you light a candle and leave it unattended for even one second it will flare up and instantly engulf your entire house in flames. Even attended candles were bad and only to be used if the power went out. When I was a kid we had this one candle that we used when the power went out. I would want to see it lit but my grandmother didn't want to waste it. We still have that same candle and it must be at least 30 years old by now.

I never burn candles. Once at a relatives house during a holiday they had an unattended candle in the living room (at least unattended until I started staring at it) and the flame would move around and flare up and make me anxious. I reminded her multiple times before I left to remember to put it out and now I'm wondering why I didn't blow it out myself.

I have a couple of scented candles I got cheap at yard sales but I don't burn them.

I have a fear of fire so I don't like candles if there's a power blackout I would rather be in the dark.

I use a scented candle in the winter sometimes. When I can't open the windows and let in fresh air, my little apartment gets a bit funky by mid-winter. I always buy candles that come in a big glass jar, with a closable lid that suffocates the flame. I am kind of paranoid that I'll walk out the door and forget to snuff the candle, so I'm extra careful about that. In the warm months, I never burn candles. If I want ambience, I turn on my old lava lamp. :colors:

I like the smell and would like to enjoy them.

However I have the same issue. My father was/is extremely overprotective and would say things like that all of the time so it's one of those extra things he's ingrained in me.

My sister doesn't have issues like this. Like many typical children and teens she would not follow my father's advice to the letter of the law. Once I went to take a bath and notice that she'd melted something in the bathroom due to burning candles in there. I didn't know how that could be relaxing.

I hate the scented 1s because smell aggravates my sinuses & I think lights or flashlights work better than candles
