Yes. I was raised to believe that if you light a candle and leave it unattended for even one second it will flare up and instantly engulf your entire house in flames. Even attended candles were bad and only to be used if the power went out. When I was a kid we had this one candle that we used when the power went out. I would want to see it lit but my grandmother didn't want to waste it. We still have that same candle and it must be at least 30 years old by now.
I never burn candles. Once at a relatives house during a holiday they had an unattended candle in the living room (at least unattended until I started staring at it) and the flame would move around and flare up and make me anxious. I reminded her multiple times before I left to remember to put it out and now I'm wondering why I didn't blow it out myself.
I have a couple of scented candles I got cheap at yard sales but I don't burn them.
