Has anybody ever asked you "are you on drugs?" even though you've never touched them before? I've had people ask me if I was on drugs on many different occasions, even though I've never really taken drugs before.

Yes quite a few times actually especially when I was in high-school
I'm dyslexic & probably have ADD or ADHD so I zone out a lot & can get confused easily.
I have a really stupid sense of humor & laugh a lot at times when most people wouldn't.
I'm a loner who keeps to himself a lot.
I stim.
I have Essential Tremors & I sometimes shake when I'm nervous, frustrated, tired, stressed or doing things with fine motor-skills.
I have a very rare low vision disorder & my eyes are very sensitive to bright lights & lighting changes so I sometimes squint or maybe have a weird look in my eyes.
I sometimes get frustrated or overwhelmed & I kind of withdraw mentally from things & act kind of like a robot or zombie but other times i get happy or hyper.

So I can understand why people think or thought I was on drugs. My parents used to to secretly go through my room when I was a teen because they thought I was on em. When I would get upset & have a meltdowns with my parents; I would sometimes accuse my mom of being on drugs when she was pregnant with me because I kinda thought she did considering all the problems I have; but I realize now that a lot of these things are genetic disorders so I highly doubt she was on drugs now when I look back on things.
I'm straight-edge & never even tried anything illegal but I spent 5 years on psych meds & a lot of those problems were a lot worse when I was on em so I have no desire to try anything illegal

Constantly. I think it's the Aspie/Autism eye contact issues which cause NTs to wonder if we're on drugs. I'm terrified of any kind of mind-altering substance, including alcohol and the tamest of over-the-counter sleep or cold/flu drugs. So it's ironic when someone thinks I'm stoned. Never happened!

Also, besides the bizarre eye contact stuff, some of us tend to do weird things like stand in the entrance of a building, counting how many bulbs are burned out, before we go in, etc. Or watching the time on the last Friday of the month, making sure we're outside to hear the monthly test of the civil defense sirens, etc etc...

Yeah, usually because I space out a lot, which I attribute to overload. But that spaced out look would provoke questions about drugs...

Yes. When I had long hair and was extremely depressed, I looked like a total druggie to everyone.

I think doctors have to ask that question just as a precaution for many situations.

In school and college people always used to accuse me of being on drugs and said I looked stoned all the time, even though I've never done anything illicit.

I've certainly had people ask if I was high. It's usually their way of saying "you're out of your mind" rather than honestly thinking I'm on something.

yes. oh boy. so many times i've had people suggest that i am "on something". i'm not. i don't need drugs! i mean, which drug could:

....put random strange ideas in my head (i.e. "can time be turned inside out? how about space?")
....make me fixate on inconsequential stuff, especially if it is sparkly or glittery?
....cause impulsive behaviour?
....convince me that stuffed animals are real when a friend makes them talk?
....make me forgetful about the stuff i have seen before so it all looks new and exciting again?
....allow me to be entertained for minutes or hours by the floaters behind my eyes or the afterimages on my retinas?
....get me excited that someone's phone number is a palindrome?

... i could go on and on...

Yep, quite often. Normally from pointing out things that others ignore.

My parents thought I was on drugs in high school, and they forced me to get a blood test to prove that I wasn't. They dragged me to a doctor's office and had some as*hole male nurse literally sit on me while they did it. It came back clean but they never stopped suspecting me. And later on I did develop a drug problem of sorts, drinking too much, partially to help me deal with their BS, which didn't exactly do much to make them stop suspecting me.

yes, I used to get called a smack head quite frequently when I was younger also my social worker was convinced I was using cocaine. These days people say things like "I wish I could have some of what you're on".

Yeah. I don't talk to people much these days and have habits such as not spacing out in public, though. Nowadays, it's mostly people thinking I'm drunk due to bad propioception and balance.

I've gotten "you look like you're on drugs" countless times.
