Odd Fascination With Cartoon Chars in Thematic Situations

I didn't think this quite qualified for the autistic section so I plonked it here as pretty much everything qualifies in this forum section.

For a long long while I've always had this fascination of certain cartoon chars from either shows or games being put into a thematic storyline instead of their usual comedic kiddy scenarios. For example taking the game Sly Raccoon and giving it the storyline and setting of Metal Gear Solid. I don't know whether it's something to do with my aspieness or I'm just completely insane.

I didn't really start thinking about it till I came across this pic earlier today. Warning, it's somewhat depressing.

Has anyone else other than me had ideas such as this?

That type of fascination isn't uncommon. One of the most popular My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fanfictions is a grim/serious crossover with the Fallout games titled "Fallout: Equestria". I've never read it myself (since I am unfamiliar with the games) but I notice that it always gets mentioned in places where MLP fans congregate, such as the Equestria Daily and DeviantArt.

Also, when I was a child, I wrote a Hamtaro fanfiction that had a similar plot to the movie Titanic because I wanted to see a more serious storyline done in that series. I also read other people's grim/serious fanfics of that series too.
