Anyone have hermit crabs?

I own five little hermit crabbies and they are really cool pets. I've been doing research on the internet and learning a lot about how to take care of them properly and I can honestly say it's a lot of fun and rewarding. I don't really have names for them because they're kind of hard to tell apart so I just call them "The Crab 5". The two things I love most about them is the fact that they can change into different shells (I've only been giving them natural sea shells because I read that painted shells are really unhealthy for them), and I love that you can feed them almost anything because they are omnivorous scavangers. I always get them something new from my kitchen whenever it comes time to feed them, they seem to be especially fond of peanut butter.

So, are there any other hermit crab lovers and/or owners on this forum?

I used to have some, but my parents made me get rid of them, so a friend of my sister's took them off my hands.

I also had a baby turtle that I found abandoned in the wild, and again, I had to get rid of it. My parents are dicks.

My sisters and I had hermit crabs when we were little. They were really cute. I remember giving them water and food in old clam shells we found at the beach. Their favorite foods were rice crispies and cucumbers.

In your research have you found much about hermit crabs as climbers?
Our one hermit crab disappeared from our terrarium, I mean vanished. No shell, No remains GONE. A day or two later my mom went to water the plant above the terrarium and found him. It seems the vine had grown down close enough for the hermit crab to climb up to it. He then made his way about 2+ feet up the vine, into the dirt and made a home there. He didn't hurt anything so we left the vine that way. He seemed to like it up there.

I love hermit crabs and other animals that have shells. They remind me so much of myself. They're adorable.

Animals smell.

My sister took her hermit crab to the county fair where it won a blue ribbon for smallest pet.

After reading about people's growing interests in novel pets, I had hoped to find a study that provided insight as to why people enjoy the company of novel pets such as 'Hermit Crabs'.

Yet the study I located on 'Hermit Crab" behaviors is quite interesting and somewhat amusing!

I was glad to read that people can value "Hermit Crabs" as pets; separate from crabs as food.

One example, Pot-bellied pigs" are a breed valued as pets; which is different than the breeds that are commonly accepted as food!
