I really don't understand this. All I can come up with is that it's one of those annoying case where it all comes down to stigmas attached by society to harmless things. Artificial Intelligence, for example. I can only think that Terminator is responsible for that.

I guess that everyone who got cloned wouldn't be original anymore, not sure though, but do you mean human cloning or animal cloning? Or cloning something else?

I don't get it either. As far as I am concerned a clone is just an artificially created identical twin of yourself. It's no different than having a twin.

To clarify, we're talking human cloning, and clones grow from embryo stage, so it would be more like having a child. It would give opportunities for childbirth to infertile people, homosexual couples, asexuals and people like me who are just unlikely ever to produce a child by natural means, owing to acne, lack of social skills and general unattractiveness.

Well it can seem odd if a human being is a medical product that might be patented. One would hope all they do is make one clone.

Also with Genetically Modified Foods the plant breeds seem to be own by Monsanto. I don't know if a similar thing could occur with animal or human DNA. If a clone facility sees a DNA sequence they like can they buy it and own it?

That's about all I can think of.

I have a problem with it, but I have an issue with reproducing altogether, and mine stems from simply thinking the world is too crowded.

I think people reproduce indiscriminately as it is, and this would make it easier. But if someone wants a child and can't any other way, I don't see the ethical problem with cloning as a means to the same end. I have no religious issues with it.

Also to clarify this topic is just about whole person individuals right?

Not to do with say..... individual organs grown in the lab. OMG what a miracle that would be.

One issue people could have is organ farms for people. (breeding people just to use their organs for transplants). I know that some or all of that would be possible with stem cells, but I do not know how wide spread that idea is.

I don't have a problem with cloning so long as it is done for ethical purposes. You could argue, people might decide to abuse the power - BUT THEN, people that decide to that will not be phased by a ban on cloning. If anything, the ongoing political debate will only mask unethical practices

What if you clone someone who is already dead who never explicitly consented to something like that? Is that sort of violating their individual sovereignty over their body and DNA?

There might be different temptations for this like cloning Einstein.

Or suppose you have a 2 year old that is run over by a car. Who "Owns" that child's DNA? I suppose it's fair to say the parents do partially in a way. They contributed of course and yet their child's combination of their DNA is unique.

But it's interesting to think about whether an individual owns their DNA code and there permission must be given if someone wants to clone them.

Another example is the two year old is fine. So fine in fact instead of rolling the genetic dice again you opt for a copy. It's so convenient because all the clothes and school books you buy get used twice.

I have a little bit of an issue with cloning. However, I would be fascinated to clone myself and be able to raise my clone.
