Things about Technology that piss you off

Technology pisses us off, so why not complain about it here? This is the place where you can rant about what technology does to ya that make you want to throw it out the window and go back to the stone age.

My computer is constantly resetting on it's own for no apparent reason. It's extremely annoying when you've done a long section of typing without saving/posting and this happens to ya.

Does windows XP count???

This computer won't let me watch movies on the Internet!

There's nothing more annoying than having your computer spontaneuosly rest, causing you to throw things in frustration and then spend a few minutes cooling down. Well, there is one thing more annoying, and that's when the Windows XP welcoming tune plays while you're cooling off during aforementioned event.

The only aspect of it that really pisses me off is the seeming near-complete lack of responsibility.
Sadly, I've been on both sides of it.
me, answers phone at AOL... lady with older machine has crappy modem hardwired onto the mobo. Nothing I can do aside from tell her to upgrade her machine. S'not my fault HP/Compaq/etc builds their stuff in a proprietary format. She emails me later, said she called the manufacturer, they (in essence) told her she was screwed, time to update the whole machine.

On the flip-side of that, friend of mine had a stick of ram go bad. Got a major runaround from the retailer who wound up telling him to RMA it. Uh, pardonnez-moi, but is that not your job, Mr. Point-of-sale? "I don't make them, I just sell them."

I understand the underlying rationale, but that doesn't make it any easier a meal to swallow.

I also dislike a majority of cellphone ring-tones, they're never original. Although a friend of mine practically eperienced one that was Chewbacca's growl (on a bus, ).

ahhh, my son but you forget he beeith an aspie.

Warranties that expire after 6 mths for products that cost hundreds of dollars.....I am not "renting" this ipod or computer...I expect my investment to last me several years....and even if you try and get refund or repair there is always some fine print that says you didnt fill out or mail in the form the right way or in time....Every purchase feels like a gamble and once they have your money....they dont give a s**t....why are there record players from 30 years ago that still work great but if I buy one now,I al lucky if it lasts past the warranty...."care to buy some more landfiller?"aaaarrrrggg

Technology that is overcomplex or multifunctional, when a simple device is what I'm looking for.

I want a mobile phone that has three buttons for Emergency services, Breakdown services and one contact number. More I don't need, and I don't want to be buried in menus and fuinctions I am never going to use.

Similar for word processing programs, watches... you name it.

And worst of all is the home computer.
I want a bare bones one that does nothing I haven't specified, with functionality to be added only as necessary, not lots of processes and functions tryng to be clever and helpful, especially when they are not clearly documented.

But if pieces of technology are useful, more and more they seem to come bundled with lots and lots of unnecessary (for me) options.

My Xp is slower than it used to be.

Given the fact that I'm storing 2209 songs and 42 videos on it.

Soon, I might get a new computer as I use "the family computer" which is the only one in the house, so I can store all my crap on it.

Also, when my computer freezes, it won't let me press CTRL + ALT + DELETE, and only stops freezing when I press "Standby" when everything I pressed in the freezing time happens all at once.

Mobile phones. At least with landline phones if you want a bit of time to yourself you can just not answer, but when peeps ring using the mobile they expect you to be there, at all times, whatever you're doing.
