I don't think it's a swear word, but it is a strong word--and it's inappropriate to use in some formal situations.

Then i swear a lot if it is, but nobody so far told me that crap is a swear word :o And i would ofcourse not use it in any formal setting , i don't swear in public etc.

I wouldn't say it is a swear word however they are swear words which sounds far worse.

For women, it is considered low class and vulgar. For men, it is something they say when they are stopping themselves from saying something worse or just to air a mild annoyance.

Not true; I use it all the time. I consider sh** a swear word that is low class and vulgar.
