My daughters best friend who lives about a half mile from here walked out of her house yesterday evening and was confronted with a horse staring her in the face. There are horses near her house but they are kept in a pen. It had a saddle on too so it obviously either ran off right after being saddled or it threw it's rider. She's 16. She's from California and has never had that happen to her, so she tried running it off then went back inside and posted on FB about it.

I read it and my neighbors have horses so I went to check, then found out who owned it (the mayor) and he was contacted and went to find it.

I wonder whats going to happen when it's winter and deer are all over the place and they get in the yard bad.

I love animal stories like these. I've been encountered by cats, dogs and rabbits before, but never a horse. Did she snap a picture of it?

Something hilarious: once, my old horse got out of her paddock. That's ok, it's happened a couple of times (there was also a hilarious incident where my mother and I were in the kitchen and we both looked out the window: there Amy Girl trots by down the road with her head held high; belts are good makeshift bridles, just FYI and all), though this was different. The neighbors called early one morning asking if we had a white and brown horse with some spots. Amy! Apparently, she was licking* their car for most of the morning.

*I never asked, but Amy would tend to lick then bite....

Every now and then are horse remembers that he is strong enough to break down the gate on our fence, and gets into out neighbor vegetable garden  That or he just stands in the yard, not knowing what to do with him self

I am totally a city kid. I get excited when I see a chipmunk.

Deer have gotten into our back yard a few times, back before the woods right behind us were cut down. We have a fenced back yard, and deer have jumped it before.

Being from the city all my life until 2001, the first time this happened I naturally freaked out. It got in, then I went out on the back deck to yell at it to run it off and it freaked out and kept running around into the fence, all crazy. It probably forgot it could jump it, what with have a crazy lady out there screaming "SHOO!" at it. We had been down here only a few months and so I got our little 150 page phone book and looked up "Wild Animal" in the yellow pages. Nope, nothing there. So I looked up "Deer" and there were about five processing places. Not what I needed. So, I called the cops. What else to do?

He came out here and apparantly it was a good size deer. He opened the gates and we waited but it never ran in that direction. It was almost deer season....... so he got my permission and shot it and took it home with him. First time I ever saw that and so I was even more freaked out! But by then I would have done anything to get it out of my yard. Except go near it because it was bigger than me.

It's happened a few times after that, and I've learned to either go out there and chase it toward the gates if it's a small one, or if it's a big one I let the dogs out and it suddenly remembers it can jump the fence.

There are horses all over the place here. Lots of animals all over. You are very likely to see two or three people riding horses down the road on most weekends, and our neighbors have let me take the kids riding before, as I took riding lessons as a kid. Across the street from me there are people who have cows, goats and donkeys (or mules, I can't tell). About one in seven people here keep chickens. When I walk to my mothers, I go the back way down this little one lane country road which is bordered by where the people have the cows and donkeys (or mules, again I still can't tell) and lots of times they have their heads stuck over the fence and the cows will moo at you. It was scary until I got used to it.

The guy behind us owns horses. I petted them a few times but I have no other experience with them or other livestock.

A deer would not survive if he/she would come around here because there's rednecks & cajun ancestry here; it would get shot & ate.

My grandpa had a couple big pigs that were tearing up his field years ago. He called the sheriff & asked if he could shoot em. The sheriff said he couldn't because it's illegal but he sent 2 of his deputies over to. The deputies shot em & said they were going BBQ em.
My grandpa had a cow getting into his field a couple years ago too & he called the sheriff & asked what he could do about it & the sheriff said nothing. Eventually the cow quit coming
He even had a peacock there after hurricane Katrina left. He knew someone who had a pet peacock & he called them & the woman said it wasn't there's. My grandpa didn't have a problem with it hanging around; he was amused by it. He wouldn't let me catch it & it disappeared after a while.
