Maybe he or she just wanted to make friends :( Or play some cards, or tell stories. Or sing songs XD

But yes, that would be scary :S

Wow! 700lbs!? Are you sure it wasn't a grizzly?

You can't swing a picnic basket around here without hitting 10 black bears, but they "only" weigh about 350-400lbs....

Gotta make sure you NEVER eat or keep food in your tent...

I always leave all my food/coolers in the back of my truck or hanging in trees (if I'm doing remote camping).

Two rules to live by: 1) Let the Wookie win. 2) Let the bears eat what they like (as long as it's not you).

It could be but I thought grizzlies are extinct in california it was big and brown but it did not have a hump on its back! It was the size of picnic bench. I made sure all the food was outside he walked next to my tent and kept walking.

I have bears all around my house, last year one got in the black raspberry patch and ate them all and trampled the vines.I figure that they get the yard at night and it's mine in the dat time.I saw two baby cubs up a tree a couple months ago and I thought" how cute!" and then I got away quick, they were bawling for Ma and I didn't want to be there when she showed up.They have gotten into peoples houses here, and I always try to make a little noise when I walk in the woods,if they here you they will leave.

Howdy neighbor!

@ AspieOtaku,

That's interesting... I thought there were grizzlies all over out west--including Northern California.

That must have been utterly terrifying! How did you become aware of the bear (that rhymes!)? Did you see him through the tent flaps or hear his noises and sneak a little peak?

I heard him through the tent and my sister saw him through her tent flaps. She said it was as big as the picnic table. I heard him walking next to my tent as the pine needles snaped as he walked then he kinda trotted away! I caught a glimps of him he was big and brown.
