In Canada where I live, students go back to school the day after Labour Day in September.

My school's getting a new building, so different year groups are going in to look around the new building on different days, then coming back to school properly later. I'll be Year 11 (Sounds scary), ao I'll be looking at the building on 6th September, then back properly on the 10th. I know, it's a bit late.

Basically, everyone in England goes back in September, I've never been to school in August before, except to get test results (Because they can't post it home unless you ask them to for some reason).

Our school year here is January 27th to december 15th. So it is the middle of school year here.

I go back 4th September, hate the summer holidays so can't wait! I do voluntary work in two primary schools, looking forward to being back in the routine.

In Scotland, the kids go back to school during the third week in August. My daughter went back on Wednesday. The rest of the UK is different. They stop in July and go back in September. I don't know why our summer holidays are so early compared to the other parts. The place has hardly warmed up and they're back in school.

CockneyRebel, How long do Canadian kids get for their summer holidays? I was in Ontario in June/July and they stopped on the 28th of June. This was the same day my daughter was supposed to stop, but we were naughty and took her out of school for the last few days.

The first day of September, while when it comes to college and university students, it takes place a month later.

So the summer holiday only lasts a month, or less than a month??? Wow, and I thought 6 weeks was short, be even that is more than a month.

By my arithmetic, it's 6 weeks (half of December and almost the whole of January).

I'm from Ontario and like the OP said they generally go back the day after Labour Day in September. I'm going to college this year though and I only have a 2 hour orientation on the first day of school on Tuesday then I get Wednesdays off so my first real day of school doesn't start until the Thursday.
