I've always liked stuffed animals/plushies based on my favorite cartoon characters, like Mater, Wilt from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Randall from Monsters, Inc, etc. I think it's because I used to think of animated characters as sort of imaginary friends (and I still do) and having them in plushie form made them all the more "real" to me. I'm still like that...I've recently become interested in Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons (he is rather dashing, even for a murderous psychopath) and plan to look for a plushie of him online soon. I've already found one, actually, but the fact that my debit card was hacked into when I travelled abroad a month ago complicates things a bit. :? Oh, well, that will be cleared up soon.

But yeah, having a plushie of a cartoon character I like makes them even more real to me - like I actually have them there to cuddle, sleep with, and talk to. It always makes my world a little brighter when I see a plushie of one of my favorite characters. Heck, there's even a plushie of Susie the Little Blue Coupe that's sold in Tokyo Disneyland, and just seeing a picture of it and knowing it exists somehwere makes me ecstatic. :D Anyone feel the same way?

I like dolls and stuffed animals, especially of cats and my favorite characters. They do make them seem more real. Although I can't talk to them while they're on tv or in a book, I can talk to the doll or stuffed animal. Although I recently encountered a problem with stuffed animals. My puppy LOVES them. As soon as I let him, he runs upstairs to find them and play with them, and I don't want him to ruin them. Fortunately, all I have to do is find one of my brother's dirty socks, and he forgets all about the stuffed animals and goes for the sock instead.

I totally understand what you mean about thinking of fictional characters as your imaginary friends, because I do it too. I also understand what you mean about having plushies of them so that they feel more "real".

I have plushies of the Disney cartoon Alice and Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, and Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. What I would really kill for. though, are plushies of the Tim Burton versions of Alice and the Mad Hatter, since I have been obsessed with them for the past 2 and a half years. I would probably take them with me everywhere I went. :)

Wow, sorry for abandoning this thread for so long...

Thanks for your replies, guys!

...I can remember lying next to my plushie of Mushu from Mulan or next to my plushie of Kaa from The Jungle Book, and imagining the "real character" sleeping right next to me. I still do that to some extent with my Cars plushies.

When I saw the movie "Ferngully" for the first time, I became obsessed with Batty, the bat voiced by Robin Williams....I wanted him to scoop me up in his long, cape - like wings so we could hang upside down from a tree and nap together, lol. I remember wishing I could find an official plushie of the character, to no avail, until the Ty Beanie Babies company released a Beanie Baby bat they simply called "Batty." At the time, my stepdad was bribing me with Beanie Babies in order to get me to try new foods (I only ate literally a handful of foods back when I was 6) and after trying some scrambled eggs for the first time and eating them with relish (part of the reason why I didn't like to try new foods was mostly bcuz texture was such a big issue for me, and bcuz I simply didn't know how GOOD everything tasted yet) my mom and stepdad took me to a Hallmark, and I walked over to the Battys in the Beanie Baby section and grabbed the first one I saw.

So, the Beanie Baby bat became "Batty" to me...even tho he didn't look anything like the movie character. I guess I sort of "pretended" he was the character, tho, and he was one of my favorite plushies growing up. He went everywhere with me, and I loved his wings bcuz the velcro strips on them allowed him to cling to things...and his wings were big enough to hug my face. ^^ Years later, I bought a mint Batty BB with the heart tag, and the tie - dye version of him at a flea market. I also found an official Batty plush with a vinyl head and plush body on Ebay a couple years ago, too. The Beanie Baby bat will always be my "real" Batty, tho. :D

Image

My original Batty's the one in front, and the "new" Batty is in the back doing a "Dracula" pose so people can see his tag....

Which brings up another question...were there any characters (like animal characters) that you wanted plushies of that they didn't make, so you ended up having to make one of your own (which I have done a couple of times) or make do with a similar plush?

Since they never make plushies of any of the human characters I love from my favorite live-action movies, I just pretend that my giant Raggedy Ann is whoever I want to cuddle with at a given time. :)

Aww, I love Raggedy Ann...I still have the Raggedy dolls I had when I was a kid. Aren't they sweet?

They are! I found mine at a thrift store, buried under a bunch of other stuff. I wanted to take her home because I felt sorry for her. I tend to buy at least one stuffed toy every time I go to a thrift store, because I'm worried that they will never be bought or played with ever again. Raggedy Ann wound up becoming my second favorite stuffed toy next to the polar bear that my Nana gave me two years ago.
