I have an Ornate Box Turtle and I really enjoy having him as a pet! Do any of you have turtles? if so what kind?

Not too many questions at all! My turtle spends a lot of time basking under his heat lamp, burrowing, soaking, exploring my backyard (under supervision of course!) and eating. Ironically enough, he just wandered into my front yard one day and I liked him so much I decided to keep him. I wanted to name him after one of the ninja turtles, but I figured it might be a bit overdone. I named him Sheldon, because he has a shell! I don't have any pictures uploaded, but he looks just like the picture in this link: Ornate Box Turtle

Turtles are also cool because they can live to be 30-60 years old if kept in proper conditions. Some tortoises can live to be 200! I highly recommend them as pets. They are pretty easy to take care of, but you do have to do a bit of reading to know about how to keep them healthy!

They are cute. My brother had one as a pet, but I was too little back then to remember it well.
Good luck to you and Sheldon :)

We used to have a snapping turtle in the zoology lab that would give himself a concussion smacking his head off the aquarium glass while trying to get at your fingers. I did collect box tortoises for a migration pattern study once; they were much more friendly.

I used to have a red-eared slider. They've since outlawed them where I live.

They're not a native species here and people would always let them go when they got too big. Our rivers and lakes are full of them now.

I used to, when I was 3-ish. But I'd keep crushing it to death. for no particular reason. I was a cruel child back then.

I'd love to have a pet turtle, but they don't allow pets in my building or the other apartment buildings in my area.

I wish I did. No hairballs by my pillow, nothing peeing in my backpack, no more chasing idiotic dogs around the block when they wiggle under the fence.
Besides, turtles are adorable

I have a box turtle. He's a great pet. Easy to care for and not at all demanding, but so cute and interesting. He will walk across the living room floor and poke his head out to look at me when I've got him out.
