Greetings,

Ive been meaning to write about this but kept forgetting. I hate public restrooms that are "single seaters" as in, just a room with one set of fixtures, not a big room with several stalls.

The reason I hate them is impatient people. The other day I was in one at a convenience store and i heard someone trying to open the door then knock, i made my presence known. Then i heard the guy asking an employee if there was a key because the door is locked. She told him that there is someone (me) in there. He knocked again and again I made my presence known.

What irritates me is that obviously there is only one door, I didnt come out of that door so logic would suggest that I am still in there.

Another thing that happened once was that i was in such a restroom when I heard the knock at the door, i made it known I was in there only to hear an annoyed voice say "well you're gonna have to finish up later, my kid needs the bathroom"

EXCUSE ME?!

Im no etiquette expert but im pretty sure restrooms are first come first serve. I didnt realize I could be kicked off the john because someone else needs it. Heck, when I was a kid i had some close calls but I never demanded my parents kick someone out just for me.

What rude people. And that mother? Unacceptable!
I don't like that kind of restroom for the same reasons.

Yet another case of a parent who thinks because she spread her legs and had crotch spawn that she is the center of the universe.

And that is why you'll never catch me dead going to public restrooms.

I hate having to go so badly that I dont check to make sure there is toilet paper first. If it's a bathroom with several stalls I have to ask someone else for some, or wait until someone comes in, then ask. If it's a single one, then I can get up and get paper towels.

This is one of those situations where we can't really fix it, so we have to deal with it as it comes. Unless I have a stomach bug or something, I usually don't have to use public restrooms other than to use the urinal and wash hands. That's fast, and I've never had an issue with anyone in a bigger rush than I could satisfy. In the case where I'm not well, and might need a few minutes, I'd try to hurry, I guess. Bad deal no matter how it happens.

Obviously it's RUDE to rush anyone in a restroom, but on the other hand, if I'm in an "emergency", and somebody is in there dilly-dallying around straightening his collar and tie in the mirror or something, and not actually using the restroom, I'd be annoyed. I'd at least knock, and if no answer I might say "Urgent here....". If someone is persistent while I'm in there, I think I'd yell out an answer "I hear ya... I'll be right out", and I'd do my best to be quick. I definitely wouldn't deliberately slow down, or anything, because whether they're rude or not, if they have to go, they have to go, I guess.

Seesh, why do people think you can rush going poopy?

One of my restroom pet peeves is urine on the toilet seat. Clean it up. How hard is that?

It would suck if you had to go to the bathroom very bad and couldn't hold it but all the stalls were full. Then you end up wetting or messing your pants. In fact my mother has done that with me when she was about to wet herself, knocking on the bathroom door saying she has to go very bad or she will wet herself. Luckily I wasn't on the toilet.

OliveOilMom, I have always pulled my pants up without wiping. I would just go in the other stall and grab some toilet paper and wipe.

My friend, who is also disabled, was on a rant about people using the handicapped stall first when there are several other stalls open. She said people seem to think it's the "luxury stall" and go to it first; forcing us to wait till they're done even though there's no one else in the bathroom. It's annoying as hell!

Is your friend in a wheelchair? You in one too? You mentioned "forcing us to wait" so it made me wonder if you meant wheelchair or autism.

I know what you mean. People can be so rude.

Additionally, Public washrooms are filthy. I go to great lengths not to touch anything when I'm in them.

I am a wheelchair user. My friend was born without arms, and I assume she needs the stall with more space to get those things done. I never really asked her about it. Lol

I will only go in there if there's nowhere else to go.

I hate being in those one-fixture bathrooms and having someone come up and rattle the doorknob when I'm in a vulnerable position. And what if I forgot to lock the door?

Okay. Some autistic people have claimed they used the stall for that reason and some people who have fear of small spaces also use it and so do people who need to use the hand rail to sit and stand so they may not even look disabled, someone who needs the stall. Also people who wear diapers. Somehow they can't even use the normal stall to change their diaper. :?

I also know parents with strollers use it too. I figure that is what they are intended for too or else there be no changing station in there.

Dear Tigress,
You are so right!!
Wanna start a t-shirt company?
A politically-VERY-incorrect t-shirt company?
How about 'No, your kid is NOT the center of the universe, make it shut up!'
AND: back on topic, so there is a changing station, it is a PUBLIC restroom, there will be other babies, so clean up after yourself!!

Geeze, what jerks - luckily I've never experienced that, mostly as we don't have many such restrooms in the UK, experienced them here in the US and I'm just uber paranoid about someone walking in.

I have bigger bathroom related pet peeves though, such as people talking on the phone in public bathrooms, eating in public bathrooms, taking up all the space in front of the mirrors, etc.

I hate public restrooms in general. I'll go to great lengths to avoid them, even if I have to go.
