Just read an article on this site about bullying or rather how to avoid it.

Essentially what I got out of it is 'don't make fun of peoples names.' And honestly if I remember right back in school I was the one being made fun of, not making fun of people and provoking them to bully me. I kind of sense a bit of blame the victim mentality and that is supposed to help people with AS in general?

Does it make sense to anyone else, because either I am not getting it or it wasnt very well thought out.

I just read it too. I pretty much agree with your assessment of it. The implication was, as far as I can see, that if you are getting bullied it's probably your own fault. Well that is total, total BS. Even in adult life people will single out those who are a bit different and who may not have done very much to deserve it. I have some recent and painful experience of that and, at age 29, I think I'm VERY capable of determining that I did not do anything to deserve it.

I just find it laughable even in the article it says something like 'this is not to say its the victims fault, but even so they should not have provoked the bully.' I mean what a contradiction.

Haven't read the article, but from what I've experienced and witnessed, people are very unlikely to provoke this bullying behavior. I can get that some people might project negative traits onto others which can incur a negative reaction in retaliation to it, but I never witnessed that to be the cause of it in my school. Whenever I got a hard time I never once provoked it, if anything I always tried to carry out my time there undetected. Generic advice such as "just ignore them" is useless as well. I found the best way to deal with bullying behavior is to stand your ground, point out how ridiculous their motives are for giving you a hard time and make it clear you wont tolerate it. This kind of dominant behavior can be unappealing to those with AS, but If you simply ignore them and allow them to continue, they now have power over you to feed their petty ego's.

I agree with everybody in this thread. I think the stuff on that page is a big crock. It looks like the person who wrote that page is advocating normalcy.

Wow, that's BS if I ever heard of it. Somebody can't take into perspective that everyone is an individual obviously.

I just read the article and most of it sounded like it's accusing bullied people of provoking their bullies. It's not much better than the school counselor that told me people treated me the way they did because of the way I acted.

I didn't know what I was doing wrong and didn't know any other way to act.

It just goes to show that personally experiencing something can give insight that people don't otherwise have.

That article is an empathy and theory of mind fail.

You know... articles can be poorly written.
