What are some current fads that you strongly dislike? This isn't limited to just clothing.

For me, it has to be internet lingo. I've noticed a lot of young people will purposely misspell words for the sake of sounding cool. For example, instead of "school" they write "skool". Also, they'll change the "s" at the end of plural words to a "z" (boyz, gurlz, etc...).

Does anyone else think that this generation of young people has come up with the stupidest, most tasteless fads every conceivable?

I know their language sounds stupid, but...

Language is not as static and rigid as you learn in school. It evolves with the people who are using it, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. And neither should you.

Newer generations will continue to tweak language to sound cool, tough, sweet (or whatever is the best approximation to the person they want to be perceived as) until they realize that it doesn't matter as long as they are understood, receive acceptance and are satisfyingly appreciated by the people they want to be with. But this will not happen until they are adults.

While I understand and agree with you that language is constantly evolving, I still regard grammatical errors (the misspelling of existing words without any change to their intended meaning) as a negative and believe it should be discouraged.

Yes, I see your point. But I'm still under the impression that making oneselves understood is the most important thing.

It's not like they all use different spellings...

Tight pants died hair and makeup on men.
Oh and Sun Glasses... Both men's and women's Sun glasses have grown overly large and gaudy looking to me.
Expensive clothing with holes and other signs of wear already on them.

"Text-speak"

Or written as "txt-spek"

Writing in text-speak makes people have an IQ of 30
and sound like a 4-year-old.

Also, guys wearing ribbed undershirts, known to many as
wife-beaters, to show off their muscular "guns."
This fad has been around for a while now. When will it go away?

depending on what you mean by "text-speak", that could very well just be people using a text-specific adaptation of writing in short-hand. & that's not really a fad so much. If you can get the same message across & type less keys then that's just convenient.

& i'm also not so sure wife-beaters are any more a fad than t-shirts for example, it's just a type of clothing. How they wear them on the other hand, might be a fad.

*shrug*

Also, vintage-frame eyeglasses are very popular among hipsters.
They used to be popular in the 1950s and 1960s, now WTH!

This shouts, "Look at me, I am sooooooooo smart!"
{When really, it's a form of vanity.}

Sweat pants tucked into Ugg boots. Especially when the girls who are wearing it have perfect hair and makeup.

I don't think it's something exclusive to this generation. Every generation has their stupid trends that the generation before them disparages.

But for the current trend I despise, I'm gonna go with all the vampire crap. Twilight, Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Vampire Chronicles, Vampire Weekend. It's all too much, and most of it is crap.

texting
tight pants
those stupid zippered sweatshirts with the loud purple and other weird 1980's colors strewn all over them.
Digital Mixing consoles
OLED screens
E85 fuel
Twitter(I use it, but it's really frustrating how many people use it for the dumbest things)
Facebook read above^
iPhone
Why every american thinks BMW, Audio, and Mercedes are SO MUCH BETTER and that they think euro people use them as "everyday cars". They're still considered high end......

Anime (Played out, and creepy)
E85 (Horrible on fuel systems)
Hybrid Cars (Maintenance cost, and pollution from mining nickle for batteries outweighs gains)
Green (Decent cause, but is more of a selling point)
Twitter (I don't care that your having coffee with your Mom, or that your dog just burped)
iPhone (Tied to that awful network, but they proved the concept)
Crossovers (they're like a bastard offspring of a station wagon and a SUV)
