I used to have a little herb garden on my balcony. It mainly contained Cannabis plants.
Such a lovely and versatile herb. I don't have it anymore but I will always have a weak spot for kitchen gardens. They bring nature right at your doorstep.

Collecting consciously, or just in general?

When mom and I were going through the stuff in the attic, I forced myself to get rid of a lot of things. It was kind of a breakthrough. I took pictures of some of it, to make it easier to let it go.

I had all my notebooks from school, which were many, plastic bottles, cans, a cardboard biscuit box, and a lot of other completely useless stuff. I have a hard time throwing things away, because I have a tendency to give things a sentimental value. I am working on it, 'cause I also do not like mess, and it gets increasingly hard to keep things organized when you keep all kinds of stuff; from napkins, to plastic bags and pastille boxed.

I collect knives & a I have a few nonknife things that go in the collection. Everything's in a drawer except for a Klingon bat'leth that's hanging in the spot at the top of the stairs between the two bedrooms. I have a couple more that can be hung easily but I'm not into decorating & still need to organize some stuff better 1st.

I like collecting things as its a enjoyable and (usually) relaxing pastime for me. Some things I have collected for years and have been a consistant interest, while others are experiments or maybe even temporary, just to have something to collect. Along with some main collections that generally cost money to add to (which often means delays), I also look for some relatively inexpensive ones to fill the gaps. Quite a few are collections I started with my kids and continue sometimes although they are not into it at this time. They might get back into it later, or not. It kind of doesn't matter, as they will be there if they want it, or can be liquidated if not. I enjoy it on my own anyway.

The main ones so far have been:

- Toy soldiers of various periods, kind of divided into sub-collections. There is a medieval group, a Lord of the Rings group, a American Civil War group etc. I collect the better quality plastic kind that were actually made as toys and not the metal 'collectors items'. I have a good estimate of having put about 27k into this collection over the years, but became a part time seller to fund it and am basically even now, or a little ahead.
- Lion King Cards. I started this back when with my daughter and had no idea what it would eventually become (or what it would cost 8O ). Anyway, it is now basically every Lion King card ever made anywhere, and because its a popular theme, new ones are made, if not only in a Lion King set, at least as part of some Disney themed set. It also branched out to include the collectible sticker series made by Panini. Some favorites are some small promotion sets made in far flung corners like Australia, Thailand, Argentina, etc. (Well... far flung from me. ). My most favorite group are cards signed by the voice actors, which I have sent to their agents. It can take quite a long time to get them back (one took 2 full years! :o ) but you will almost always get them back eventually. Tracking down the smaller part actors and actresses can be difficult, but is part of the fun I guess. The hunt. Once in a while you can tell you get their actual signature with a note (I include a note to the voice actor) but most times what you get is what is known as an 'Auto Pen' or 'Secretarial' signature which is done by a machine or secretary. Even so I still like them.

Other lesser interest ones are:

American Stamps (used)
Foreign Coins and Paper money
Legos (Bionicle, Castle, Star Wars and Adventure Series)
Playmobil (Castle and Dollhouse series)
Littlest Pet Shop
Fast Food Premiums (just a few selected subjects)
Really old Artifacts (a few coins, arrowheads, bullets, grinding stones, pottery shards, fossils, etc)

I don't really collect things but I do seem to keep a lot of things with nice textures so I can touch them when I need to.

Mainly gears, cogs, tool holders, some centers that came from I have no clue, an aluminum block I milled with a lot of different textures from various types of tooling, random jaws that don't belong to any of my chucks, a mink fur, a miniature anvil and too much more.

It should come as no surprise that I collect old games... and new games... anything from the last 40 years really. Not that I should boast because I see I'm not the only one here who collects old games. It's just that it was what I was obsessed with when I signed up.

My house is also packed with vintage Lego. I got obsessed with it a few years ago and then stopped when I ran out of room. Suffice to say I no longer have a dining table. It's covered by Lego railway tracks. Other themes include Castle, Western, Pirates, Model Team but most of my collection is Technic. Most of it's from between 1980 and 1996. Had I signed up in 2010 my Avatar would probably be a minifig... and not one of those newfangled ones either.

I also collect vintage electronics, especially old TV sets. I like 80s portables because they don't take up much room but 60s console TVs make good tables. Most of all I try to acquire ones from the early 2000s. This may not seem very vintage but I need relatively modern CRT sets to use as displays for things such as Super Nintendo and Megadrive. I can't plug one of those into a flat panel, that would almost be as bad as using an emulator. There's only one emulator I use and that's the one inside the MAME cabinet. Purists may shun me for this but I don't think I have room for more than one arcade cabinet so it has to run MAME.

Lately I've been branching out into 70s comic books and 19th century books. Anyway I like living in a cluttered house. I don't want to be one of those zen guys living in an empty room and I hate it when I go into someone's house and it looks like a picture from a magazine.
