I've recently been learning about alcohols in chemistry...

I CANNOT STOP NAMING ALCOHOLS.

2-hydroxylpentanoic acid
1-bromo-2,3-ethylpentanoic acid
1-ethyl-2-methyl-3-hydroxylcyclohexene
dibromoethane

Ohhh.... I feel dizzy with joy! I could do this all day!
DRAWING THEM is much more fascinating. I have recently downloaded ACD ChemSketch *worships*.

IT'S BETTER THAN PI!

yeah, knowing how to draw all these things (based off of their name) will save your butt in chemistry... especially O-chem.

and yes, it is fun :D

Note avatar.

Benzene is beautiful.

Sedaka, it does help indeed! I see my friend struggling.

cecilfienkelstein, you should introduce yourself to it - its fantastic!

Btw, I'm doing me AS Levels now!

lol i had some good chemistry teachers and then some BAD chemistry teachers....... they make or break the subject

i had a fun program too on my PC when i was in chem but that's on a different PC that i don't have anymore and i cant even remember the product name to pass along to you :( you could type in any chemical compound and it showed you a 3D model of the compound (reactive sites and all) and all it's isoforms and all of their chemical properties.

but i am done with my chemistry education and have begun the supression of it all.... outside of it's application to my work...which isn't very much. lol

Oh wow! This takes me back to my favorite part of high school chemistry class. I think all of my obsessions come from early childhood when I found I loved how things connect together. I drew sound and video system diagrams when I was 6. They were completely inaccurate but I loved em. I love how different atoms fit in different ways with each other.

I also LOVE plugging and unplugging things. My favorite connector to do this with is the Neutrik Speakon. You plug it in, twist, and a metal latch clicks into place. Ahhhh, so much fun. Every time I walk by the patch bay in the control room and I plug and unplug a few times. Fortunately I'm going into a career that almost entirely involves knowing how a system is connected together and actually connecting it up. :D

I used to be obsessed with inventing and drawing organic chemicals too. I think my chemistry teacher thought I was a freak. My advice is try not to let it distract you from the actual course too much: the sad truth is, no one else really cares about stuff like this. :(

I guess it's better than "I can't stop drinking alcohols."

yeah that stuff is pretty cool too! but why does it have to be better than chemistry? i think they are bothe equally stimulating and fascinating...

I have two chemistry teachers, and one of them is a PhD! She is amazing... And tough on the marking too, which I like!
I don't get any chemistry writing coursework though... Only experiment coursework.

I'm more of a theoretical chemist myself.
