This started as a response to the thread that OliveOilMom made about MLP. It turned a bit too off topic though so I made my own thread.

I have to admit to being perplexed by the brony phenomenon. I actually even watched an episode to see what all the fuss was about. It wasn't my thing at all really. The animation was very good I admit. Just because I don't enjoy it doesn't mean I hate bronies or anything (although there does seem to be a strong element of bronies that enjoy deliberately baiting and annoying people (not talking about anybody at WrongPlanet by the way) and those piss me off as much as anybody who behaves in the same way). I want to make clear I am asking this question in a totally non-judgemental way (and I would appreciate if any hating were left out of this thread). Can someone explain the attraction of My Little Pony and the reasons why so many people are so interested in it who you would probably expect to not be interested in it. What do you feel is so awesome about My Little Pony? Has anybody else watched it out of curiosity and been equally perplexed as to what the appeal is for older teens/adults?

I've been part of the fandom since February '11, and it's turning into a "bandwagon" thing with each passing day. Just recently at one of the conventions there were fake fans of the show attending just to harass the real fans of the show. I absolutely love 90% of this fandom, but it is definitely deteriorating. Although I don't spout the whole "love and tolerance" motto, I do agree with it to some extent, and it's annoying to see so-called bronies intentionally aggravating people who dislike the show. Some bronies hate people who dislike the show, the people who dislike the show hate bronies for trying to shove the show down their throats at every chance they get, cloppers hate bronies because of obvious reasons and the cycle goes on and on and on. Anyway, to answer your question the characters of the show have the most endearing, awesome personalities ever (IMO) which is why I love it. There's not just that, of course, but I've rambled on long enough.

Might edit the above post later (if at all) since it's all over the place. We'll see!

From what I understand, many Brony's often feel like they can really relate to certain Pony characters and they genuinely enjoy the characters personalities. It is normal for people to relate to characters of a T.V. Show and to become big fans, Brony's just tend to Bro harder, or so it seems. That said, MLP is not for me. I can understand many reasons why older teens/adults can be infatuated with MLP though. It's colorful, light hearted, and relatable. I am more into documentaries than anything, cartoons do not hold my interest most of the time, especially ones aimed at young kids. If there were a documentary on MLP or Brony's, I would be open to watching that.

MLP is one of my special interests, and I obsess over it for the same reason I obsess over any other work of fiction: I love the characters, either because I can relate to them or I wish I could be them. I also avoid getting too heavily involved with the fandom, because I hate the drama and infighting that goes on within fandoms (whether MLP or virtually any other fandom surrounding a work of fiction).

It's an internet troll meme, it's widely liked by trolls. I'm not one to judge someone for liking it but the fanbase of it are generally full of internet trolls who most likely don't leave their house..

Question: Is a "Brony" someone who is a fan of "My Little Pony" ? Is this a TV show or a little girls doll or both? :?

A Brony is a fan (whether male or female) of My Little Pony.

The fandom at current revolves around Faust's G4 of MLP. There are plushies and "dolls" too.

I only slowly became aware of the fandom as 2011 wore on, and now that I am part of the fandom full-on, it's amazing to see what the fandom has become. I would say just because there a few bad apples in the fandom, doesn't mean they should be judged by those people.

I for one, am very kind-hearted and believe the show teaches valuable lessons for everyone, I feel.

I actually heard the fan base originally started on 4chan so there you go.

Me, I don't really like them. I find the whole obsession with MLP rather immature.

The trolls are in the minority, they're just the more vocal portion of the fanbase.

Funnily enough, the cloppers are nicer and more genuine than the majority of the fanbase. I suppose because they have less to be judgmental about.
