This is a self explanatory Q. Which was the better boat story?
------
It's hard for me to say which is the better one, to be honest. So it's a draw in my book.

Both take a slight backseat to "the Odyssey" as a sea story IMHO.

But all three are good tales.

And the two stories in the OP are kinda mirror images: in one a ship sinks and folks drown. In the other the whole world sinks and drowns- and the big liner is itsself the lifeboat.

In one the 'message' is too obey God. The other was a real life event that in the popular mind has come to be taken a parable on hubris. So both are imbued with mythic meaning.

In the Titanic only 1500 people died. But in Noah's Ark the death toll was presumably in the millions. So the latter was indeed 'more violent'. But they were all sinners who had it coming!

Its a toss-up.

My opinion on which is better is dependent on what I'm in the mood for. Noah's Ark is a good fantasy but The Titanic was based on a real life tragedy with added romance.

The Titanic was an amazing ship with an incredible story (I'm talking about the historical ship, not the way too long movie), but I still have to go for Noah's Ark because I like the part about saving the animals. In fact I used to have similar daydreams as a child.

Noah's Ark didn't quite inspire a film like the Titanic........ oh, wait. There was Evan Almighty.

The Titanic story has inspired many movies, and novels in the past centurey (Hollywood revists the disaster atleast once every thirty years, or so).

But the FIRST piece of Titanic fiction ever actually PREDATED the sinking of the Titanic by 14 years!

In 1898, merchant marine sailor turned novelist Morgan Robertson, published "Futility" subtitled "the Sinking of the Titan". A work of pure fiction in which he had his characters cross the Atlantic in a newfangled luxury liner bigger than anything built by mankind before. The liner strikes an Iceburg and sinks 400 miles east of Newfoundland with most of the ships company drowning. The name of this ill fated ship was the "Titan".

In 1912 the real HMS TItanic (the biggest ship of its time) was sailing west on its maiden voyage, and struck an Iceberg 400 east of Newfoundland, and sank with most of its company drowning.

There were a number interesting similarities and differences in the dimensions and technological details and in the details of the sinkings between the fictional Titan and the real Titanic.

Though its been put on audio tape they have yet to make the novel into a movie.

If they do- it should be done steam punk style IMHO.

I haven't seen Noah's Ark. I've seen a film about The Titanic but it was really old in black and white and I did enjoy it.
