Samhain is the festival celebrating the end of the harvest season in Celtic regions. It occurs on the seventh day of the twelfth triskadene of the Holocene calendar, which coincides with October 31 of the Julian calendar.

"Samhain" is more closely pronounced "sah-WHEN" than "Sam Hain", and the proper pronunciation acts as a shibboleth for certain cultural groups and religious orders.
