Is hiccuping a lot related to stress?

I never used to hiccup hardly at all, but now I find myself often doing random hiccups, sometimes loud, sometimes so sudden that they make me jump or even scared, and sometimes when I cough. If I drink even just two or three small mouthfuls of fizzy drink in one go, all the muscles around my chest jolt. And I often hiccup loud if I have eaten too much. Sometimes I get a moment where something feels quite blocked just above my stomach, and I know a hiccup might come any second, sometimes it does sometimes it don't. I find myself slowly taking deep breaths but it doesn't always work.

I am a slow eater so I don't swallow much air, although I usually do a burp after meals anyway. But the thing is, I never used to hiccup at all when I was younger. Now I do nearly all the time, and it can get quite embarrassing. Is this because of stress, or is it a sign of getting older? I hate hiccuping, especially when one comes all of a sudden. I usually just do one or two but it's still annoying.

I also get the hiccups when I'm under stress, so they are for me. I'd be interested in what other members have to say.

I don't think you will see what other members put because I don't usually get many replies when I start a thread.

I believe they're caused by digestive issues and digestive issues can get worse because of stress, but are not caused by it.
