Thinking we might have some deaths and property loss today after this text message arrived on everyones cell phone from the government. My Mum of 76 years is freaking out despite not being in a danger area.
Catastrophic Fire Danger tomorrow for Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Ranges. Not being in a bush fire prone area is the safest option. www.rfs.nsw.gov.au

My thoughts go out to the fire fighters.

Mine too. I heard a poem about the fires that happen there and it sounds terrible.

"The hill fires looked like lighted streets of cities in the range" is one line I particularly remember from it.

It's going to be 40 degrees today here, but it's pretty humid. The other side of my suburb had a pretty bad fire a few years ago.

I hope all the people will heed the message from the government and be safe.

We will be very lucky to get through this Summer without much tragedy. As one fire expert explained it, the weather is similar to how it was during the Black Saturday fires in 2009, except those were preceded by years of drought and therefore not much fuel. This time we have had a wet Winter, so there is heaps of grass everywhere. Dry, dead grass. And not much rain forecast for the next month.

I dream of moving out to country Victoria one day, but this is a huge downside to that kind of lifestyle.
