My mum and other people say me and my dad look similar in appearance. I compared an old black and white photo of me and my dad when we were both aged 6 and we looked like twins, the smile, eyes and facial structure was exactly the same. People have said of course I look just like my brother and mum too.

I was talking with my mum about this the other and she said "you and your dad look alike but you obviously still have your own set of genetics."

I know this is a hard question but what was my mum implying when she said "you still your own set of genetics"?

There are a few possibilities as to what she meant I think.
1) Because half of your genes are from your dad and the other half are from your mom, by referring to "your own set of genetics" she might be saying "Hey, don't forget that half your genes are from mine! You're my daughter as well as your dad's!"

2) She might be implying that you may look like your dad but you have her personality

3) She might be implying that you may look like your dad but your personality is nothing like his (or even possibly hers too)

He said that he looked just like his DAD at the same age ( not "like his-dad-in-drag).

Lol!

But - Your mom meant that though you look remarkably like your dad- you are not a clone of your dad. Half of your DNA is from your mom. So you are your own person. Thats my guess.

To be fair, six-year-old boys and girls aren’t that easy to tell apart with any certainty unless you see their privates :)
