I've seen plenty of alligators, but never in a sewer.

I remember the movie Alligator where it starts off with a baby alligator in the sewer and it grew big and terrorized the whole city, even though it was supposed to be a scary film I found it hilarious.

So the economy is so bad alligators have moved from the swamp to the sewer?

Its a long time urban myth- that alligators live in the sewers of New York. Back in the sixties I heard that tourists come back from florida with baby alligators as pets- and then flush the unwanted pets down the toilets in NYC- and they live. Live and grow to full size in the sewers. What they live on down there I dont know. Maybe they eat the rats.

But now you're telling me this myth is not a myth?

I remember Stephen King's IT that had some sad bits in the movie about the man whose brother was taken by the creepy clown.

sually I think they dont survive long after winter in temperate regions because of the cold lack of food and bacterial infection although alligators do have strong immune systems!

Claim: A thriving colony of large alligators lives deep within the bowels of the New York City sewer system.

Believing in myths allows the comfort of having an opinion without the discomfort of having to think.
