Do you think the government should have the right to arrest you, keep you in prison for decades and NEVER put you on trial (so you can defend yourself ) or even never charge you with a crime? The government has that right! Its called "indefinite detention". And yes, it applies to US citizens. I think that the loss of the right to a trial destroys ALL our other rights. For example, the government may not like something you said. It can arrest you and never have to reveal that exercising your freedom of speech was the reason behind your incarceration.
The most important news event in the history of our nation ( the nullification of the bill of rights) and normals don't care!! !
Secret bases where torture etc occured were revealed by the press. What did the normals care about? That the press was violating national security!
Now the AP scandal and once again the normals are on the side of less freedom (of speech and press). There are many normals that care about freedom. However, since the majority of Americans are not aspie and the majority of Americans don't care about freedom,it follows that most normals do not care about freedom.
Aspies (not all but the majority ) care about freedom because our rights have been surpressed. We are also more objective (we observe our emotions more then experiencing them). We can understand the importance of issues that do not directly effect us. For example, indefinite detention will never effect me directly because I am imsignificant. (Hopefully they will not arrest me for this insignificant post! :) ) Normals on the other hand (on average, I am not saying ALL normals )cannot seperate personal interest from what is right to do.

In western countries, some people care about freedom; the majority are too busy drinking, playing games, watching TV and buying stuff to a) know what the issues are and b) care. Governments prefer things that way. Most people are not politically aware whatever their neurology; they usually just want to enjoy themselves.

I'd say the extent to which a person cares about freedom correlates with the effect having a lack of freedom has on their daily life.

A typical normal response to "is stealing wrong?" is that God will punish you (Hell etc). Instead of simply,"its intrinsically wrong". In other words a normal's morality is based on reward and punishment (very Skinnarian!) instead of real moral depth. Normals cannot seperate personal benefit (escaping hell) from what is right to do.

What is the 'right' thing to do at any one time is usually decided by whether the majority in the group think it, not by whether it is intrinsially 'right'/moral

Are you saying that because the majority of Germans supported Hitler, the holocaust was the right thing to do?

Certainly not - I said the opposite ie that the majority decision is often nothing to do with morality - I put 'right' in inverted commas

If a group of 10 people have a murderer cornered and 9 of them say "Let's kill him" but one says "No, it's wrong"
What do you think is likely to happen? I would suspect that the majority decision will rule, regardless of the morality of the decision

Obviously that's not right

Agreed! (see OP) If aspies were more politically powerful, our country's moral leadership would be enhanced.

People are too absorbed by a glut of self-indulgent distractions causing the decline in integrity and general morality. They don’t even notice that politicians are voting to pass bills they don’t even read. America is a country filled with, and governed by, Homer and Marge Simpsons. In a democracy, people get the government they deserve. In a nation of idiots, you get Idiocracy.

I disagree because we do not represent most aspies

Most aspies are like most NTs - ie not bothered about moral issues like this and therefore likely to side with the majority decision

Most people just want to be on the winning/strongest side

Aspies (in general) are not as concerned about conspicuous consumption (fashion etc) as normals. That makes us (on average) less shallow and more moral then normals. We are also more objective. (We observe our emotions more then experiencing them.)

Are you sure about that?

How can you tell?

I thought Aspies were more likely to have alexithymia. If that's the case then we don't observe our emotions or experience them. We're just not aware of them.

When you are angry you are not aware you are angry?

I don't always realize I'm sad/in a low mood if it's subtle enough. I'm not sure if I have alexithymia or not but it's extremely common among Aspies. I'm aware of my feelings if they're strong enough but if they aren't I might have them for a while before I notice them or I might not notice them at all unless I consciously try to pay attention to them. I could be feeling slightly blue and not be aware of it at the time.

Interesting! I will have to take time and ponder. Alexithymia is characterized by an inability to distinguish between bodily (somatic, immediate sensations) sensations and abstract emotional catagories. In other words we are aware of our feelings but unable to label them! As I said previously, I need time to ponder as this is the opposite of my understanding of Asperger's. My idea about my Asperger's is that I am alienated from my feelings!
