I'm wanting everyone's opinion on this post, no matter how far-fetched.

You're an adult with 2 kids. You're a rational, logical person who reads a lot and doesn't believe in religion. One day you call your mother, who lives just a few blocks away, to see if she can pick up a pack of cigarettes for you since your husband took the car to work. She doesn't answer, but a small child does and you can hear the child babbling, so they must be young (keep in mind that at this point, your kids are your mother's only grandkids so far, both are far too old to babble and they are right in front of you playing, and she never has visitors, so it already seems odd). You yell in the phone so somebody will hear you and notice the kid has the phone, then you hear your brother take the phone, slightly chastise the child for playing with the phone, and then you hear your sister say "Joey, do you want your beer?" (Beer used to be your youngest son Joey's nicname for his teddy bear when he was a toddler). Nobody seemed to hear you yelling to get their attention.

Your brother hangs up, you forget all about calling your mom again, then later she shows up anyways to talk about work. You mention the weird phone call and ask if any babies or toddlers were visiting earlier, and she informs you that nobody had been at the house at all that day, everybody was at work. You don't believe her and check her caller ID when you go there an hour later, and there were no phone calls from your number at all that day. Your mother and brother are not jokesters at all either, so they wouldn't erase it just to play a prank.

Opinions? I know, it's a weird story

I would guess you called a wrong number which just happened to have a fella named Joey whose wife offered him a literal beer.

Either that or you called a parallel reality where your Brother had a child, lived at your Mothers, and you had never been born so only the babbling baby could hear you.

Here is a bizarre theory.

Maybe you DIALED THE WRONG NUMBER!

There are ten digits in a phone number. Maybe you dialed one or more wrong.

It fascinates me how everyone in the human race (except me apparently) assumes that they are infallible.

A lady Im aquainted with called up a second lady (the second had a history of mental illness). The first lady got "this number is disconnected" message. So the the first lady suggested to us that the second lady "must be back in the mental hospital, and they must have disconnected her phone".

The two of them talk every couple of weeks- but the first one leapt to the conclusion that the second one not only got carted off to the booby hatch- but that the phone company had noticed that she wasnt paying her bills and gotten angry enought to pull her phone line- all within two weeks. That scenario before thinking of the possiblity that she (the caller) had dialed the wrong number.

The second lady was fine-and so was her phone line BTW.

But you're right- the possibility that you would make a mistake is so paranormal that Nambo's theory is more likely. You must have accidentally dialed into a parralell universe!

Lol!

Mistakes can happen with speed dial as well btw (you mightve enter the number wrong when you set up it up on speed dial- or there coulda been a technical glitch when you called).

I don't see how it's possible to dial an alternate universe either, it just doesn't seem likely that my cell phone signal managed to magically find a wormhole in my living room to travel to a phone in a parallel universe. My brother has no children but he has lived with my mother all of his life, so hearing him wasn't a surprise at all, neither was hearing my sister since she visited daily. Both of their voices are very distinct and we talk daily, so that honestly leaves out me calling a wrong number and mistaking their voices with someone else's.

So that leaves either another theory I've never heard of or I had a temporary delusion, albeit a strange one. Occam's Razor tells me the logical answer is delusion so far, albeit a strange one and I've never had any reoccurrences, and hopefully never will. :?

What ever the explanation (vivid dream perhaps) if it has only happened once I suggest that it isn't worth worrying about too much.

Iam less inclined to belive you had a delusion, unless its something you suffer from?
There are a lot of very strange things that happen in this world, I love to read the "Your True Paranormal stories" on this website here:- LINK TO WEBSITE

Look up "Sorry, Right Number" by Stephen King. It's similar.

Sounds like you fell asleep just long enough to have a dream.

There was no caller ID proof that the call ever happened.

You mentioned a brother & a sister so maybe you accidentally pressed the wrong thing or selected the wrong thing in your phone's phone-book/speed-dial thing& the other sibling was over there too as well as a guy named Joey who may be a friend of your brother or sister's boyfriend
