I... am unconvinced. There are plenty of theories as to what we might look like, etc. but according to the evolutionary biologists I talk to they're not taken seriously by the majority of the scientific community: there is no way to test them and the amount of variables that would go into predicting something like can't be encompassed by any experiment. Sure, we can show evolution happening and even change the way it goes in Drosophila (a small fly, one of the first genomes sequenced) but we're a long way from doing the same with humans. Also the work we've done with Drosophila is in extremely controlled environments.

I don't doubt that we'll evolve: I just doubt that we can predict how at this point. Even when we reach a place where our understanding of genetics has grown and actually includes a decent understanding of epigenetics we still won't be able to predict random stochastic events that could drastically shape our environment. Basically: we live in an unpredictable world. Human evolution - or any evolution - is hardly linear.

What they're saying about resistance to diseases makes sense but it doesn't mean that we'll be anything like immune to all diseases. Diseases evolve too: it's an evolutionary arms race. (There are some seriously cool things I could say about bedbugs here but I don't want to get too off topic). What will be interesting it to see what genes are closely linked with those that make us resistant to certain diseases.

Also they do not cite their sources. Grrrrrrr. I don't trust "Scientist" or whatever.

Btw, I'm sorry if what I just said is unintelligible. I did try to speak normal... I am just very used to talking to other Bio people about these things and I kind of forget what words are actually normal.

Looking at western civilizations, we rather seem to evolve in the other direction, getting rounder, then skinnier. ^^

I already have big eyes and a tiny mouth. I even have the big forehead. Too bad I still have the big jaw to match.
