OMG! It was the worst ever! I was going through withdrawals! the shakes! DTs, and even loose stool!

Just kidding. I survived (barely).

But I was without internet for 2 days (again). we live in the boonies, where this thing happens on a semi-frequent occasion. Thankfully it came back in time for the wife and children to submit homework to the colleges without having to travel to get a wifi spot.

If any of you have been reading Bonnie's Blog, I do have a new Post up, that was delayed by the internet being down. Please read, please share with your friends.

This is why poor internet service is a bad thing. It makes faithful posting virtually impossible. I need to figure out how to transfer posts from odt files to the blogger android app (and to do the pics, etc. in blogger app). So that if this happens again, I can just email an odt to myself and next time I am in town I can use the app to post. It takes far too long to try to write with the little keyboard app, and I don't see how to add the photo like I do on the pc.

I guess I need to spend time learning the app.

It would be cool if there was an app for WP (even generically for the bbs software that could be pointed specifically to wp.) that would help.

Other than my smart phone or occasionally when over at a friends house, I have not had internet at home for 3 years. My smart phone does not tether or hotspot.

I have an "old" smart phone. I use straight talk's unlimited plan for 45 monthly that gets billed to my bank account every 30 days. I don't like this because instead of getting 12 month's of service, they are essentially deducting 5 days off each year, which keeps the billing cycle from being on a set day each month. Essentially, if I keep the service for 6 years, they get to bill me for 1 extra month in that time period. Most people think that's not a big deal, but it keeps me from being able to rely on a billing schedule.

I have installed the blogger app on my smart phone but I haven't found ways to format the mobile posts the same way I do when on a pc, and the small screen and even smaller "keyboard" is difficult to work with, causing me to take several hours for something that would normally take 10 to 30 minutes. Thus I am better off typing it in a word processor then pasting it over to the internet.

Straight talk runs off the verizon network, which often seems to discriminate against straight talk phones, giving 1x speeds in 3x areas, etc. taking forever just to load email, or google web page. It's not the greatest, but it provides access and I have unlimited texting, phone calls, etc. and whats left over out of my pension after car payments covers it. so . . . :/

I feel your pain. No one noticed when we dropped cable, but if the internet goes out our entire house panics.

I've been known to suffer from "tech withdrawal."

Just last week, actually.

Ahhhh!! ! How frustrating!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !

My internet keeps randomly losing connection, which is also really frustrating. When I look at the router and see there is only 1 green light, it makes me want to SCREAM! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! ! I've even bit the router before in a frustrated temper.

This is the guide they EXPECT you to take before complaining that your internet outages are their fault.

Bad internet/internet down trouble shooting guides

Step 1)
Power cycle like a pro.
a) turn off all electronic devices related to internet, computers, routers, modems, etc.
b) unplug any and all electrical lines connecting any of these to each other, ethernet, electrical, phone, usb, etc.
c) wait 30 minutes (used to be 30 seconds, then 1 min, then 5, now it's 30 according to the foreign "specialists" reading from their scripts so they know what to tell you)
d) plug the power only back into each device
e) plug the phone/cable/internet cord back into the "modem"
f) turn ONLY the modem on
g) wait until all lights are functional (if you do not get all lights within 60 minutes of turning modem back on, skip the rest of step one and proceed to step two) then plug connecting cable between modem and router back in (or pc if you don't have router)
h) power up router, (or pc if you don't have router)
i) if using a router wait until you get all lights on then connect all peripheral devices. if connected directly to pc, skip to section (k) of step one
j) power up at least one pc, if you are using a router
k) once pc is powered up. pull up a command prompt window and ping yahoo using the relevant command for your operating system.(they always assume windows).
If you get a ping. you are good. If not proceed to step two

Step 2.
a) If using cable modem, skip step two and proceed to step three. if using dsl go to store and buy new dsl filter.
b) test dsl filter to make sure it is good (how? go to a friends house and check it on their system?
c) If dsl filter is good, go home replace your dsl filter on your house, repeating step one, all steps. If you get a ping response at the end of the step one, you are good, if not, proceed to step three

Step 3.
a) go buy a new modem
b) test modem to see that it is a good modem (how, visit your friend's house again, checking it on their system, then having to wipe it clean and start over at your house?)
c) if modem is good, take it home and install it on your system
e) repeat step one. If you get a ping response at the test at the end then you are good. If not proceed to step 4

Step 4.
a) Replace all the phone/cable/satellite lines in your house. make sure to get all the connections perfect and all the resistance measures are with in engineers specs (what? and what are the engineer's specs? it depends on the manufacture of the cable, AND the isp signal strength, and the 2nd info is protected information because they don't want their competitors getting hold of that info).
b) if the replaced lines are all correctly replaced, connected, good and the measures within the specs that the companies won't let you know about, then repeat step 1. If you get a ping response at the test at the end of step on. you are good. If not proceed to step 5

Step 5.
a) Have a calm relative or friend call the cable company and schedule service
b) electronically sign your agreement to pay them ungodly amounts when they declare that it is not their fault (when, not if )
c) pay the exorbitant fees.
d) repeat all these steps when the internet goes out again 5 days later
e) proceed to step 6

Step 6.
a. Enter a mental facility before you lose it and become homicidal.
b. repeat this mantra one trillion times. Thorazine good.
c. take your Thorazine faithfully.
d. foreswear the internet and become a monk upon leaving the mental facility, and never bother your isp again, unless it is to pay them tons of money for the inconvenience you gave them as a customer expecting them to actually deliver you a product that works (shame on you).
f. sign a written confession that all this was all your fault to begin with, notarize it, and mail it to your isp so they can be protected against any and all lawsuits you or your family may try to file against them.

You know sometimes I wish I could go back to the mid 2000's , when I was in the middle of childhood when we didn't yet have internet , I didn't know s**t and I did nothing but fun and loved life.

For the record , we didn't get our first computer till 2005 , even then we rarely used the internet until all the social sites got big in 2008.

Growing up, there was no such new fangled thing as the internet where i lived at all. In fact there was a whole 2 television stations and 1 went off the air from 10pm-10am daily.

The internet is a wonderful thing but i can live without it quite easily.

I first had shaird dial-up for a few months way back in 2002 or something like that, only really used it for cartoon and game fan sites. That got cut off, but more recently around 2007. So basically was cut off for 5 years and never had the chance to experience the internet in childhood properly.
