Post your favorite examples of architecture, ideas you have for buildings, where you think they should expand the public transit in your city, etc.

My favorite building. There is just something about the design that gives it a timeless elegance.

I love the marble and lighting fixtures in the lobby. It's like going back in time and seeing the future from the 30s. I really like the retro-futuristic look. I like how they have the names of the streets above the exits.

I also love this early digital clock.

There is also a passageway underneath the building that leads directly into the 42nd Street-Grand Central subway station. I like the look of the sign.

Feel free to share your favorite examples of architecture! I would love to hear from more people!

BART: Bay Area Rapid Transit. The rapid transit/subway system for the San Francisco Bay Area. I prefer using this so much more than driving, but the original plan would have been so much better than the current system.

The original plan.

The current system. I have to ride from the Dublin/Pleasanton station to get to the city from my house. It would be better if they had built the original system with the San Ramon and Bollinger Canyon stops.

What BART will look like in 2030. It is nice to see that there are more lines through San Francisco, as opposed to just one through the Market Street Subway.

What do your transit systems look like? What would you like to see from them? What are you looking forward to? I would love to hear from anyone who has this interest, and I would enjoy discussing this topic!

Don't know how to post pictures, but if San Diego had buses that ran after 8 P.M. on Sunday, I would not have to take a cab to work when I work on Sunday nights.

You can post pictures by copying the URL and then clicking on the picture symbol and pasting. I do wish more transit systems ran 24/7. BART runs from 4 Am to midnight, but it's inconvenient if you want to stay out late.

There's one particular inclination I have in architecture.

And it's all about the context of the scene.

I'm afraid I don't understand. You like grandstands? It's not bad if you do, but I don't understand if you do or not. I also see what you did there, "my inclination"

Not building the Geary Blvd. line was such a mistake. Apparently Muni was looking into building a proper subway under Geary--and other parts of the city--back in 1967.

How interesting! I did not know this. However, I feel it would have made more sense to have one integrated system instead of two seperate ones. They do need to expand the Muni trains to have 3-4 cars. I am aware that they are testing a 3-car train in the Market Street Subway, so that is a step in the right direction. They also need to have more lines in San Francisco, especially northwest/southeast.

Yeah, my understanding is that originally, BART was supposed to operate as a more proper metro system within San Francisco itself, with multiple lines and more frequent stations, but that plan got cut when the San Mateo and Marin County lines got cut (BART over the Golden Gate Bridge would've been impressive). I was not aware that Muni is testing longer trains; it needs them.

I'd say the fractured nature of Bay Area public transit is the biggest issue it faces.

I like the architecture of football stands and grounds, including how they lend themselves to the surrounds, how they look when full or empty, and all their unique quirks and styles seen over periods of the game despite usually being made on the lowest budget possible. I like contrasting the general pleasantry on the eye of the grounds themselves as compared to how easy it is to get a view of the game itself. Due to the short operating lifespans of stands in each state, traditional football grounds often seem in a sense of flux. Perhaps not so much for purpose-built tin-can arenas which hardly interest me. I like how ramshackle grounds have an almost vernacular style. It's not one of the first things most would think of when they think of architecture, but I get stuck on attractive football grounds which are like temples to me.

Ah, ok. It's not what I think of in architecture, but interesting nonetheless.

I know this isn't related to architecture, but I love this car. I normally don't like cars, but I like this one a lot.

I think I like this because I like things that symbolize motion, or progress. This represents motion for me.

Too bad that isn't a googie-style building in the background.

I like some googie-style architecture (the Space Needle and LAX Theme Building, and a couple restaurants), but other googie things don't look good to me. I really like Art Deco, and particularly Streamline Moderne, which is a sub-category of Art Deco. Ever see Courscant in the Star Wars movies? Many of the buildings are Art Deco and Streamline Moderne.
