The emperor has no clothes.
For those of you who don’t know Charlotte Dawson, here’s some background.
· Former model and minor celebrity.
· Worked for fashion magazines, and tv shows such as beauty and the beast and next top model. She was never shy of speaking her opinion, and basicly made a living from judging , criticising, and bullying others.
· She was a prolific tweeter, and would retweet any negative tweets from others to garner support and ”shame” her dissenters
· Made comments that fashion blogger brian boy should be killed, then laughed it off.
· Made disparaging comments about her native NZ, then when a woman tweeted that on behalf of NZ go hang yourself., she had the person tracked down and sacked from their job.
· replyed and retweeted abuse for 8 hours, threatened suicide, was taken to hospital; within hours had done an interview with 60 minutes about it.
· She was an ambassador for an anti-bullying initiative.
She suicided on the weekend.
Her friends realised something was wrong when she hadn’t tweeted for 19 hours. Everyone is now posting tributes, and the TV stations are making her into some sort of martyr. Anyone who dares say anything different is flamed and called a “troll”, bully” and as bad as those who “killed her”.
Where does all this denial come from? She was a hypocrite and basicly made a living from judging , criticising, and bullying others, but cried blue murder when it was done to her.
I think part of it is she was blond, beautiful and a celebrity. In Australia you can do things that are illegal, and stupid (ie drug-running) but if you are young and beautiful, You are made a celebrity. It seems if you are young, beautiful and celebrity, they make you a martyr.
But I’ve seen this sort of denial out of celebrity circles. People defend a bully if anyone dares give them a dose of their own; sometimes the most vocal are weirdly enough those who have been bullied by them.
One of the reasons I don’t trust people. The following 4 links were made after the twitter scandal. The last link is the only one prepared to still say it.
